Yep, the Dragon is no longer single again - as I have a new honey!!

Her name is Wendy, she's 24 and is from Beijing, China. I will show you a photo of her soon!
What happened to the old one?
In a nutshell: she was cheating on me with half a dozen other guys!
At the same time?

It goes back to a joke of my mom's about one hen and several roosters (instead of the opposite arrangement to get more eggs), that is if women had their way.  Alas they do not.
If what happened with your last girlfriend happened to me, I would be somewhat cautious about falling in love with another young, attractive woman in Asia (or any part of the world, for that matter) I had never met in person. Something deep inside tells me these women are just doing whatever they can to try and leave their home countries.

Can you meet someone in your own area? Or at least in your own country? Someone you can get to know in person without having to spend large sums of money and travel thousands of miles? I would just hate to see the same sort of thing happen again.
Yeah, the vast majority are just wanting a green card into the UK.

Whoa, there.  Firstly, you're wrong, he did meet Maria in person, if I remember correctly (I could be wrong, but I don't think so).
Secondly, you've both just made a huge over-generalization and are regurgitating truly harmful stereotypes.
It's true that Dragon should be careful to not fall into a pattern of dating the wrong type of person, but that's a type that can't be summed up as "Young, attractive women from Asia".  And there's no reason to assume that the new girlfriend is going to cheat, too.  We don't have enough info for that.

That said, frankly, I do think Dragon should try for someone in the same geographical area as he is.  It's just too hard to have a long-distance relationship- with women or men from ANY country- it's not necessarily that they are more likely to be tricking you or cheating; it's just that it's hard to tell, and it's less satisfying, and harder to make it into something long-lasting and truly deep.  If you are looking for something long-term, you should probably look for someone local.

Yes, he did meet Maria in person, but only after travelling long distances and that was the same trip he found out about her "real" life. Call me old-fashioned, but just I don't think it is a very good idea to become engaged to someone over the internet and meet them only once before you get married. I'm not saying it's impossible that everything will work out, but I'm willing to bet the odds are against Electric Dragon.

As the old adage goes, "If it seems too good to be true, it probably is". And when it comes to long-distance relationships and marriage, it would be much more wise to err on the side of caution. If Electric Dragon wants to pursue a relationship with this woman, I would recommend he visit her and have her visit him several times before even considering the possibility of engagement.
Some relationships manage to workout and thrive in spite of the obstacles. Probably why one can never categorise them.
When the overseas people start asking you to send money for "airfare" that's when the alarm bells should start ringing. My best friend got burnt sending $1,500 to Russia so his "internet girlfriend" could fly over and meet him. He sent the money, she never arrived. And then “she” came up with some cock and bull story about how things got screwed up and how “she” needed him to send “her” more money. At that point he bailed.

After what happened to him, whenever I get unsolicited emails from "some girl" claiming that “she” wants to meet men in my country, I usually reply by saying “Get a real job you bums” or if I'm feeling particularly feisty I'll say " If you email me again I will hunt you down and kill you" Tongue

But I hope it all works out well for you, Dragon. Smile
yeh and the internet "girlfriend" probably had an account in Nigeria. Mind you I do have a Nigerian friend who is a lecturer. This is a national industry there. Scams.

It's also a good idea to find out if she intends to come to the same country as him. I think his other girlfriend was probably not likely to leave where she was.

Congrats ED. (No more half naked pics of you. Half naked pics of her OK.......no probably no even then)
I must admit I had some doubts about Maria but didn't want to express them at the time in case I was mistaken and only upset ED for nothing. I just got this funny vibe from her pictures that made me feel these doubts.

One of my first cousins is with a Chinese lady and they have two kids and get on really well. She studied Engineering and had to return to China for a few years with kids in tow but thankfully, she is now back in Australia. I must ask mum if she saw them when she was in Brisbane recently. The kids are very brainy, like their parents.

I think relationships can work out with people from another country but it's important to be careful, especially if they start asking for large sums of money.
