Morning,
What do others think of having an 'ignore user' function on the forum, so that you can choose not to view posts by a certain member? We already have the ability to block PMs from certain members, and some fora I inhabit have a similar function for the forum itself.
There are people who are going to wind me up. So, I'd rather just not be able to see their posts so then they can say whatever they like and I can just not have to put up with it.
And there are people who I'm sure are winding me up for their own amusement because they know I'll respond. I've discussed the neurological problems I have in relation to anger already, it's no secret. People in real life wind me up for LOLs - in fact my own family only stopped doing it after I stopped talking to them - so I'd rather not put up with this *** here as well.
Because frankly, at the moment it sounds like "tolerance" means everyone gets to *** on Ethel, and if I retaliate I'm a big bad baby-eating monster.
I think that threads would be extra confusing if one or more people were taken out, there would be no comment to reference when the thread tangents. So, I would say not to the forum ignore.
I don't know much about Ignore buttons, but I imagine each user could ignore or "un-ignore" other users at will...put "User X" on Ignore most of the time, but if a certain thread is hard to understand without his posts, take him off Ignore temporarily (and at your own risk!) just long enough to read his posts in that thread, then work yourself into a rage over his/her latest annoying comments and put him/her back on Ignore.
This is an awesome idea...I will definitely ask Gareth about it. Thank you!
Maybe I should go back to bicycle forums for a while and talk about wheels and handlebars.
Yeah, that might be a good idea. I say go for it.

Simen, did anyone say that to you when you threatened to leave several times today/yesterday?

I do not use leaving as a threat. I'm not looking for attention. I'm certainly not suffering from any delusions that people will beg me to stay. If I say that I'm considering leaving I say it to inform, not to threaten or seek attention.
However, the answer to your question is, yes, someone did tell me leaving would probably be a good idea. Why do you ask?
I think this is a perfect illustration of the advantages of such a button...
One thing about this - Gareth's indicated a few times that he no longer has the time for programming, but is happy to implement any helpful myBB patches that other people develop.
Are there any PHP programmers here that are familiar with myBB? It's going to be a while before I get a stretch of free time, too...
This post is hidden because [userX] is on your ignore list. To view this post anyway, click here.
This is EXACTLY what I had in mind.
I don't know the first thing about PHP, though.

Aha! I should have checked here earlier - someone else has already done the work:
http://www.mybbcentral.com/showthread.php?tid=34
So..does that mean it's going to get added to the site? If so, anyone have an idea of a timeframe?

It's Gareths call from now - but he shouldn't have a problem with it, if the work's already mostly done. All we have to do is get his attention...
I accept the mission!
Blocking out people because we can't begin to tolerate them and we aren't able to self-monitor?
That is freedom we can work for?
You could use the Ignore feature or not use it, your choice.
Atypical, stop it. You've been picking at me and taking my general statements personally all day - please STOP IT. You are hurting my feelings and I'm asking you to stop. Yes, I'm being a drama queen, to *** bad. This nasty *** hate-filled forum as really, really upset me today and I'm sick of it.
YES ATYPICAL I WANT TO BLOCK PEOPLE'S POSTS. YES, I AM A BIG BAD EVIL BABYEATER WHO DOESN'T DESERVE TO BREATHE YOUR GOOD CLEAN CHRISTIAN AIR. SO SHOOT ME, BECAUSE I'VE BEEN ON THIS FORUM A LOT LONGER THAN YOU AND I'VE DONATED A HUNDRED **** DOLLARS TO KEEP IT RUNNING - WHAT HAVE YOU DONE????????????????????????????????
As I've already said, NO I CAN'T always self monitor, because of the nature of my neurological condition. If you don't like that BLOCK MY POSTS.
Geez man, what is in the air these days?
Smoke.
I thought the smoke was on the water... *grins*
But back to the thread at hand - I'm going to see if I can find a forum using the ignore plug-in tonight, test out how it works, and post the results. Hopefully it won't take too much effort to install the thing...
- good idea and thanks for your efforts checking into this Zakkie
And er.. thanks for that song in my head now

That's great. I just pass over the posts without reading them if the person always annoys me. I've wished for an ignore button but thought that only existed for IRC. That would be a nice feature.
