Hope is so much better than fear. I also figure a president that can properly speak english is just better. (left the million dollar words out) It will take a long time to reverse the damage to the constitution and the overreaching of presidential powers. Obama is pretty well versed in constitutional law.
I remember earkt in his "reign" of bushisms January 2001:
Interview with/in the NY Times:
W: " Redefining the role of the United States from enablers to keep the peace from peacekeepers is going to be assignment."
Or Nov 2000 - right after he was "elected" "the legislature's job is to write law. " It's the executive branch's job to interpret law."
My husband and I just watched on HBO the same show we saw live last year - Comedian (RIP) George Carlin, "in It's bad for ya" did a reprisal of the Bill of Privileges and during that he said instead of him quoting" Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel. Samuel Johnson" He said that people who have nothing left to say, say God told me - like W. when he said , many people are on record quote: President Bush told Texas evangelist James Robinson that “I feel like God wants me to run for President. I can’t explain it, but I sense my country is going to need me."
Sorry to tangent the thread on a negative. This is supposed to be a positive thread - about Obama. Hopefull in 207 days Obama will be our president. (I hope his donors (I am one, one of the millions of under 100 dollars donors) do not pay back the other candidates debt back. ) I think he is showing us how well he can keep out of debt, that I am hopeful for. Less debt and perhaps healthcare for all. I am hoping the US can start to compete respectfully in the global marketplace.
Got hope?
I am sorry that everything that I do, irks you. Can't you just keep it to another thread?
Is this because you know I liked Obama and you liked Hillary, things have not been the same ever since? See you in PM, or not. Not on this thread.
If Ron Paul had a chance, I 'd be there - he wasn't even on the ballot in my state.
I was a Perot supporter.
The republicans have been there too long - too long to cover up. If they don't get beaten (by a large enough margin to keep the Supreme Court out of it) our family is moving. Our aspie son (very political) says to Canada we go, if Obama does not get in. He figures what on earth do people have to de to get impeached - but worse, re-elect?!
I am an independent
Hey, a positive thing! Barack Obama and Hillary Cinton are on TV right now together. There's Hillary telling us to vote for Obama with him right next to her! It's kind of hard to believe my own eyes/ears. Hang on world, the Bush Nightmare is almost over.
Neocons or democrats... how different are they really? From where I'm looking, it seems like the only choice you've got is the choice between Tweedledee and Tweedledum : two sides of the same corrupted coin.
Republican candidate Ron Paul was the only one I can respect. The rest are nothing but puppets of big business.
Just got a thank you note from Barack and Michele Obama - on recycled, non-glossy and thin paper. That seems prudent.
Our kids are very excited about Obama.
Third party - not a chance - that is the point, the system is messed up.
Ok, I'm slightly confused as to how you can have a third party in a two party system. How does that part of the USA's messed up system work?
I agree with illusion, on two sides of a coin - dems and republicans. I am thinking about a person. In this case at least Obama can speak English.
Our kids are very excited about Obama.
Don't get your hopes up. He's no less a puppet of big business than figurehead like the Bushes, Reagan, Clinton or Gore.
You do realise that Gore only published his famous An Inconvenient Truth because big business can profit from the whole eco-industry, right?!
The difference remains to be seen. If you read my other posts in this thread, you will see that Ron Paul was NOT on any ballot in my state. We can't vote for other people - if we write in ( I did for the last 3 elections - I never voted for Clinton) then it gives, in this case, McCain moer of a chance of being elected by default. I choose the lesser of two evils. This time.
I will also let my kids have some enthusiasm about Obama - there is already too much apathy among the very young.
Why not hope, as I said, it is better than appealling to fear.
Fear brings out the worst, most base, feelings and actions out of people.
We have lots and lots of political parties, (in the US) but basically only two that have any chance, someday perhaps three. What the parties say or said they stand or stood for is changing like the wind...
The parties are self-serving, of course. This is called "indirect democracy". There is another thread already done on this.
I also liked Dennis K.... (although he admitted to seeing a UFO and now can't even be VP)" Kucinich was ridiculed for claiming he saw a UFO; however, dozens of former pilots, military officials ..."
"In an impassioned floor speech, Congressman Kucinich warns of the dangers of secret surveillance and blanket wiretaps". Now that is truth to power.
Got hope?
Well at least Obama will have money: Obama will have enough money, from small donors like me to defend against the huge system that will come after him - like the "swift boaters" did to Kerry. (due to bypassing the federal public money of 83 million to have whatever the public thinks he needs and/or deserves to fight back against a system that is built around money, not truth, or hope.)
Was this supposed to be a positive thread? Oh well.
I was just recalling that the first post of this thread started by NYAJ was this: (I get pulled into the negative (with me it is my strong anti-bush feelings) but still I want to look for and find something positive (LOL hopeful) in our mainly broken system.
Hey, a positive thing! Barack Obama and Hillary Cinton are on TV right now together. There's Hillary telling us to vote for Obama with him right next to her! It's kind of hard to believe my own eyes/ears. Hang on world, the Bush Nightmare is almost over.

How can a thread about political puppetry be a positive thread?
Of course I do realize the absurdity of holding out hope and actually putting forth effort thinking I can make a difference. I enjoy the concept of "alone we can do so little, together we can do so much". (That is the motto of my duaghter's catholic school PTA). I have 3 children who are being allowed to question our political system - one who is really, really optimistic in regards to Obama. (Our aspie) I hope, for all their sakes, that something positive comes from Obama.
Better (for me) to give "grass roots" a chance (in anything I work on) then to give up.
(And whoever it was that said, in this thread, "they" want us to give up, I agree with you entirely on that.)
I also liked Dennis K.... (although he admitted to seeing a UFO and now can't even be VP)" Kucinich was ridiculed for claiming he saw a UFO; however, dozens of former pilots, military officials ..."

OK, what in the hell was THAT? ^^^ Did you get visited by aliens last night as well? Sheesh...
Got hope?

Your views are not only naive, they are so naive that they are dangerous.
I figured whoever was on this thread was versed in politics and knew what the rest of the quotations would say. (I'll fill them in in bold) I also thought about just posting a shorter message, but thought that I should back up my statement with quotes from the news. (I am confused from being constantly picked apart, by you, in case you are not clear to whom I am referring to. No, I did not make myself so clear that everyone in the world could follow, but no one is following that closely on such a small and non-controversial remark as regading the Vice Presidency of the Us and that becasue he was honest enought in more than one casew to admit the truth, that is what makes him not suitable. I am not suitable for this forum, you are making that clear. Who are you to say so?
Perhaps I should "report you" for you intimating that there is something wrong with being abducted by aliens, (or that I am delusional) I guess by that you mean I am not suitable for this planet? Was that you being "direct" or was I suppoed to read between the lines to figure out "clearly" what you meant by that.
So on some other thread, you can say" it is wrong to use the word "wrong", one should be careful with their wording so as not to offend" (you said something close enough/similar) and yet, you can Directly tell me I am naive AND dangerous.
Korrigan, can you please, pretty please be more clear in what you meant to say there, how exactly is being hopeful being dangerous? (oh I should not forget a smiley face).

So sue me for typos, I need to put the kids in bed, right now and I can't keep up with all the barbs you throw at me.
Sorry, for the tangent, or whatver this is called.
Is anyone else hopeful about US politics, at all?
Previous poster There is no Self wrote: "Obama is gonna hand him his *** in November."
I hope so.
Got hope?
