Not to attack the candidates or anything, but I don't think the Bush Nightmare will ever end. It's clear that the same ideas, the same principals, are what get people into office. Not to mention that I've heard all of the candidates change their stance on a myriad of issues, including the War in Iraq.
I'll have to see it before i believe that Obama could bring any real change to the nation. Too many prejudices, and distrust of gov't figures. Besides, Obama is just one man, and he has to work with Congress. Congress is still, for the most part, filled with the same people who have pushed through many laws that Bush has supported. And (on a slightly more random note) I still haven't seen Obama come up with any plan to generate Sound currency for the Nation.
Fair point, and the act of a new man in office Will give the people comfort. It'll even give me a bit of comfort. And I agree when you say that it may improve the way the rest of the world views us.
Hope is good, it keeps us going, and gives us something to look forward to. Maybe someday we CAN move past these outdated ideals fueling the Oval Office, and truly make this country a better place.
Bush actually said that? "It's the executive branch's job to interpret law".... Wow, I stand corrected, Obama is without any doubts preferable to the current situation.
I always thought it was the judicial branch's job to interpret the law. Hence the virtually ignored Supreme Court...
well, I can't explain it, but I sense that I'm going to need a passport soon. These are becoming scarier times with every new notion that comes to light.
And not to step on any toes or anything, but one should only run for president if he or she is capable of doing a competent job. Religious motivation should have, at most, secondary importance. Not that I'm against religion, I just don't believe it has a place running a country full of peoples of many different faiths and backgrounds
My husband and I just watched on HBO the same show we saw live last year - Comedian (RIP) George Carlin, "in It's bad for ya" did a reprisal of the Bill of Privileges and during that he said instead of him quoting" Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel. Samuel Johnson" He said that people who have nothing left to say, say God told me - like W. when he said , many people are on record quote: President Bush told Texas evangelist James Robinson that “I feel like God wants me to run for President. I can’t explain it, but I sense my country is going to need me."
youknow its so funny when people make posts like this talking about what Bob said he said what "I like pie" and the pie is good and then not that kind of pi ebut adntopther kind of pie but W said that meatpie is a good pie and then Margie said that pie is not alwahs good for you and I am not sure what kind of pie is really good for you but not that pie. Mrs.Smith told me that Marge said that "Pie is good" but then again is pie good I mean what abotu the pie.
The posts are hard to read and make NO SENSE!
I am sorry that everything that I do, irks you. Can't you just keep it to another thread?
Is this because you know I liked Obama and you liked Hillary, things have not been the same ever since? See you in PM, or not. Not on this thread.
You are delusional.
hey, no mental health jibes.
Ok, I'm slightly confused as to how you can have a third party in a two party system. How does that part of the USA's messed up system work?
Well, simply put (I've done a lot of looking into this type of thing) There are two main parties, that represent, supposedly opposing viewpoints. Those who do not fall specifically within these view points, can form a third party, which represents a specific political demographic. Libertarians, for instance, represent a third party, as well as the Populist, and Progressive party, back in the olden days. These parties tend to have only one main goal, and then they fade away. Other Third parties are there specifically to take votes away from other candidates (My grandfather says that nader only runs to take votes away from others).
The thing is, though, that only the Two Primary Parties, Democrats and Republicans are allowed air time on television and radio. Third parties have to buy their way in. This is why I think Ron Paul ran as a republican, he has many clearly Libertarian views, but in order to get his message out, he needed to run as a Republican.
Did any of that make sense at all? It's confusing to us, here in the States as well
Ack, sorry, my post was in reply to AP, in case there's any qeustion.
Actually Max, in this case, I agree with the points Illusion raises. As I've been thinking them for some time. Votes for excellent candidates ARE frequently wasted, because people are so sucked into the basica Two-Party system. Now-a-days the two parties might as well be a single party. People "waste" their votes on Third parties, because they've seen that there's an alternative to the "Same stuff, different day" gov't we have. (Not sure if that wuote makes sense there). If there asn't such a negative stigma attached to the Third Parties, we could have variety in who we chose, and could grow far more as a country, than we ever will with two parties constantly bashing each other.
I also liked Dennis K.... (although he admitted to seeing a UFO and now can't even be VP)" Kucinich was ridiculed for claiming he saw a UFO; however, dozens of former pilots, military officials ..."
"In an impassioned floor speech, Congressman Kucinich warns of the dangers of secret surveillance and blanket wiretaps". Now that is truth to power.
OK, what in the hell was THAT? ^^^ Did you get visited by aliens last night as well? Sheesh...
Got hope?
Well at least Obama will have money: Obama will have enough money, from small donors like me to defend against the huge system that will come after him - like the "swift boaters" did to Kerry. (due to bypassing the federal public money of 83 million to have whatever the public thinks he needs and/or deserves to fight back against a system that is built around money, not truth, or hope.)
Your views are not only naive, they are so naive that they are dangerous.
Less than 15% of the voters wanted him as a candidate. There was no conspiracy. People saw him, heard him, and rejected him.
People never really got the chance to know Ron Paul. The media never allowed them.
Was that because the big bad media was keeping us from the information? Was that because we are not able to educate ourselves? Or was it perhaps that he is not as good of a salesperson as the other candidates?
Whatever...does it matter? He is not a choice at this point.
Was that because the big bad media was keeping us from the information? Was that because we are not able to educate ourselves? Or was it perhaps that he is not as good of a salesperson as the other candidates?
Or was it perhaps a mixture of some or all of these? It's no use to keep thinking of the cause, while the US and the world in general keeps on corrupting because the masses don't realise they're being duped by their so-called leaders. We should think of the solution ! !
I think you are very wrong there. I think that if any of the above were true, we need to figure out the cause, because otherwise the solution will never be found.
Fact is, politics have always been and will always be corrupt.
