The best thing any president could do for the USA is the one thing that no president will ever do--destroy the imperial presidency.  We have the most powerful monarch in the world.  Sure, it's an elected monarch, and the monarch can't reign for more than 10 years total, but the president of the USA has more personal power than anyone excepting possibly Vladimir Putin and the disturbingly quiet and polite man who currently runs China.

Over the centuries, presidential power has been carefully built and husbanded until we have reached the point wherein a president can issue unlimited "signing statements" to laws with impunity.  (For the uninitiated, a signing statement is a statement issued by a president when he signs a bill into law.  The statement usually boils down to "I won't enforce this or that part of this law.")  Likewise, presidents now invoke "executive privilege" to prevent their underlings from testifying to Congress over anything and everything.

The great outrage with the current president is not the shenanigans he pulls.  The great outrage is that his predecessors, including the Democrats, have taken the US government to a point wherein a US president can get away with such shenanigans.

Of course, dogmatic idiots will refuse to understand this and blame the "enemy" political party for all evils.  But here is what it boils down to:

Every single time your favorite political party expands government power in order to promulgate an agenda that you agree with, it has given the opposite party access to the exact same power to use in promulgating its agenda once the pendulum swings in its favor--and it always will.

Congress STILL LETS HIM GET AWAY WITH IT and that is WITH a DEMOCRAT majority.  Democrats are nothing but the willing slaves of Republicans, evidently.

Are you really so naive as to think that our presidency only became imperial in the last 7 and a fraction years?  This has been going on for a very long time, with the parties tag-teaming in their effort to beat up the Constitution.

The GOP will simply acquiesce to the current round of elections, because they know that the pendulum will inevitably swing in their favor.  All they have to do is bide their time, and then they will get to appoint the emperor for a while.  Either way, it's a just game for the two major parties.  Their leaders all attended the same schools, buy the same consumer goods, and are all cut from the same cloth.

None of the establishment stooges who run the two political parties want real change.  They merely sell the appearance of change to the credulous  who make up the majority of the US electorate.

Part of the Big Lie that perpetuates the system is that "my party is different from your party".  Congress had a chance since 2006 to show that Democrats aren't the willing butt-monkeys of GW Bush.  Congress has decided to keep playing Bush's tune.

Like a stooge, but with less dignity and integrity.
Usage:  The Congress of the United States of America was intended to be the center of Federal governmental power.  Instead, it has allowed itself to become a gaggle of 535 butt-monkeys for the presidency.

That statement, alone, all by itself, proves beyond any doubt that you are simply too ignorant to be taken the least bit seriously.

Here's a hint for the severely stupid:  In what year was the Republican party formed, and what was one of the central planks of its platform?

--for the last two hundred years?  Lemme guess, you also think the Germans bombed Pearl Bailey and TV was invented during the Civil War, right?

Two hundred years?  Wow, not THAT is a sign of utter stupidity.  Whoever wrote that is just too stupid for words, stupid beyond stupid, ignorant beyond ignorant, moronic beyond moronic.  TWO hundred years, eh?

Just plain stupid.

Likewise, I guess whoever wrote that SUPPORTS slavery, since the Republican party originally had abolition as one of its major party platform planks.

You're a bigot and an idiot.  You presume that I must somehow follow Bush and the Republican wing of the Uniparty because I won't blindly swallow the errors of any stupid idiot's claim merely because it happens to be "anti-Republican".

You're nothing but a knee-jerk idiot, too stupid to even realize that the Republicans DID NOT EXIST 200 years ago.  You only backpedaled from that statement AFTER it was pointed out to you.

In other words, you can't refute a single statement I made, so you're trying to just deflect.  Congratulations--you are morally identical to GW Bush.

I'm voting for Obama.  I don't want business as usual.  If you've seen one elderly rich white Republican man (and veteran) running for President..... maybe you haven't seen them all, but they have too many things in common.

I want something COMPLETELY DIFFERENT and that's why Obama is my man.

Seriously for a minute, if a world leader did to us Christians what Bush is doing to certain Muslims (Afghanis, Iraqis), we Christians would call him the antiChrist.

Jesus is not your excuse to treat someone else mean.

It's up in the air.  Clinton has enormous machinery to call into action, but she's very polarizing.  Obama might do well to find someone who has a less urbane image, too--more of a traditional "blue collar" Democrat.

So, except for the "not white" part, you're saying that he's indistinguishable from any other major politician.
