I had bullying at school and at home and just about everywhere else I went. Of course, it was considered to be either for my 'own good, or because I 'deserved it'.
I was most certainly bullied at School, and although I'm sure the schools tried to stop it, it never seemed to have any effect. Things were better in sixth form though, as more fellow students were friendly with me.
Hmm I dunno how to answer.  I went to 4 schools. Bullied in the first 2 schools a LOT which is why I switch schools (Elementary). In the 3rd school a little (Jr. High). Not much at all in the 4th (high school).

I was surprised to see the "school tried" part of the question  because such an idea never occured to me. Back in my day, it was simply between the students.  We didn't consider the idea of the school getting involved in that any more than we'd think of them getting involved if you were having relationship trouble with a lousy boyfriend.

Sorry to hear that Zed.
This also very much describes my experience of bullying.

Often bullies or abusers will try to psychologically justify their actions 'person was asking for it etc'

I got a lot of stick through primary, from the kids, but thats really to be expected looking back on it, primary age kids are little shits to each other.

Through my first secondary school, I got some nastiness from one particular, sadistic *** of a teacher, I remember being told 'you poison everything you touch', not really the best sort of thing to tell a LFA kid ( I don't like functioning labels, but for the sake of discussion thats who I was at the time)

My last secondary was a boarding school, I got along with most of the people there, and I don't think I ever got bullied, by that time I bulked up a bit and there weren't that many people there who could have bullied me if they had tried, although there were a fair few fights.
I was lucky in that I was never physically bullied, it was verbal bullying I got.
My dad was a bully, I was bullied at school, and now I get bullied at work.

Verbal bullying can sometimes be worse than the physical stuff.
I was physically and verbally bullied at school because I was thought to be 'weird'.

My mother was a bigger bully than my father...
I experience prejudice at work--one person in particular doesn't like me. Bullying tends to be more subtle in the adult world; but is unfortunately just as prevalent as at school.
It’s important not to let ourselves be intimidated by a bully; the moment do we become a victim and the bully has all but won.

I love those who can smile in trouble, who can gather strength from distress, and grow brave by reflection. 'Tis the business of little minds to shrink, but they whose heart is firm, and whose conscience approves their conduct, will pursue their principles unto death.

I'm also a Da Vinci fan.

Here are a few more quotes:-
Anyone who conducts an argument by appealing to authority is not using his intelligence; he is just using his memory.

You do ill if you praise, but worse if you censure, what you do not understand.

The greatest deception men suffer is from their own opinions.

I mean, I pretty much spent all my elementary school recesses wandering through the field waving my arms around and muttering to myself (defending the schoolyard from monsters.  Somebody's gotta do it.)

Yes defending the school from monster is a very important job. lol Big Grin

I was bullied in school mainly from grade 7 through 9. And then in 'college' for two years. I was also teased by my dad and my brother. In grade 7 through 9 I harassed the hell out of several of my female classmates.

I suppose alot of the reason was that I did what others told me to do and then I just kept doing it. When other classmates told me stop I just didn't understand why. I had no feeling whatsoever that I was doing anything wrong.
Most of the bullying I got was in the early grades. The teachers took the attitude I brought most of it on myself because I annoyed people. Maybe so, but they shouldn't have let big boys bash a small girl.
Hehe, at my old school Jannine, we did that, got together with some petrol on the last day and torched our uniformsSmile
