I figured as the intro thread was yours we could tangent on this and horses to all our hearts content... but better idea with a new thread!
I live near new York City- about an hour and a half- so I did ge to see it on broadway - the soundtracks are amazing...
I know this man I tell you, there's nothing here for you, ..... they live ordinary lives....
the city goes to bed, and now I can/ live /inside my head
or is it dream? or be ?
I was privileged to see the original US Les Miserables touring production at Butler University.
Did anyone else develop sympathy with Javert? I felt sorry for the poor, limited mind. He was so constrained by the rigid limits of "right" and "normal" that the higher virtues of mercy and forebearance eluded him. In the end, when confronted by mercy from a "deviant", he could not transcend his conditioning toward radical normality.
Poor schmuck.
His part was incredible, I think I went in 1991 or 92, I am not sure if it wsa terrence mann, but my cd is him...
His background of "being born in the gutter" and all that made him a very sypathetic charecter.
"by giving me my life this day, he's killed me even so..."
pardon me the typos - I guess I'll turn in...
God on high, heed my peayer, in my need, you have always been there...."
the world is full of happiness that I have never known
but you have yet to discover and enjoy.
Do you like music SuperJK?
Oh yeah. I love Les Mis. (It's really great and the music on that stage production is fantastic.)
...Although I felt that the most recent movie (with Liam Neeson et al) didn't really do justice to the story - it tended to race through each part like it was trying to fit too much in to too little time.
"Empty Chairs at Empty Tables" still gives me chills - although my personal favourite songs are "On My Own" and "I dreamed a dream".
Was singing in a production of Les Mis a few years back (some local thing) and that was lots of fun. And during the bit where Gavroche gets killed, it was kind of funny to watch 3000 people all startle at the same time.
My brother knows a few of
the "Lovely Ladies" that will be in it. He says they're all getting tired of the music, he says they say "YES, We
can hear the people sing!" xD
I started listening to it exclusively before their rehearsals ever started, and I'm by no means getting tired of it

hello...and good morning> (8:30 Am here) My kids (mainly the boys) boys want to see Les Miserables, but as they are 9 and 11 and daughter is 8, the lovely ladies part is not suitable. I'd have to pull the kids out during that part.
Lovely ladies Waiting in the dark Ready for a thick one Or a quick one in the park ...
The first time I saw Les Miz, over 20 years ago when it was first on Broadway, I thought "I'm selling the house in california and moving to New York so I can see this every night."
Eponine, is it a local group doing the production you will see, or a touring production? Either way, I envy you seeing it for the first time.
GO LOVE IT!
I wondered how the shpw went -- you were about to see it when the forum disappeared. I'm really glad you weren't disappointed -- you had high expectaions and it's great when a show lives up to the anticipation.
No, it's NOT about the French revolution, it's about the 1832 STUDENT revolution, in France.

I saw Les Miz the summer of the 1989 Student Revolution in China and the parallels made it a very powerful experience for me. Like a lot of people, I knew nothing about France's Student Revolution before I saw Les Miz, and seeing it just three months after the Tienanmen Square Massacre was shattering for me.

This famous photo of one young man stopping a row of advancing tanks has haunted me for 19 years. I think it captures the spirit of both revolutions. No one really knows what ever happened to the man in the photo, and I always think of him when I hear "Empty Chairs at Empty Tables." I hope he survived the massacre.
Coming to Washington DC I think, I heard an ad on WTOP....
My brother knows a few of the "Lovely Ladies" that will be in it. He says they're all getting tired of the music, he says they say "YES, We can hear the people sing!" xD
"Waiting for the customers who only come at night..."
I remember a music director or someone mentioning that there was a double entendre there... In fact the whole libretto is full of 'em.
...My old Les Mis choir "uniform" is looking a little the worse for wear these days... hehe.
