flashing and animated avatars and long long singatures with large photos in them.  They just overload my brain.  Could people stop using them?

A small avatar that does not move or only has one slow motion is less distracting.  But flashing all over just hurts me.  

Long, long signatures with copious text and photos is also very very distracting.

I feel the same way.  When I see flashing avatars my instinctual reaction is 'what a git!'  When arguing over at Autism Speaks once I saw one guy suggest using said flashing avatars maliciously because it would upset us.

Me too. It's difficult to concentrate on the text when you eye is contantly drawn to the images. It's not that I don't like them just that it means I spend more time reading and scrolling and no time replying.

Someone here wrote how to disable the avatars and signatures.

Look at your User Control Panel (click on your user name, click on User CP on top of page.

Then, choose Edit Options from the menu on the left hand side (under: Your Profile).

On the right hand side of the option's page, you will find options to disable signatures and avatars.

Thanks much easier without the signatures. I'm keeping the avatars though so I can recognise people.

thank you.  I turned them all off and I feel so much better now.  I have more peace at AFF.

Oh so that's what happened to avatars and sigs...

Yeah, big pictures and stuff distract me too, but for me personally I'm keeping them, since it's the best way for me to identify users and keep track of what I know of them.

I love all your stars and your "Emperor" status.  The whole thing just makes me chuckle.  

Not that my nOObness, ancient computer and slow dial-up connection are your fault, BUT whenever I have to scroll up or down a page on which you have posted, the scrolling slows to a crawl as I pass your avatar!  It's as if my computer is mesmerized...

I like the static picture avatars. Animation drives me bats.  But to each his or her own.
You guys okay with my "kissing cells" avatar?  I was trying to come up with a gender neutral valentine.
