Aspies For Freedom

Well, I've been reading through this site for quiet a while. And this is my first time posting here. So, let me introduce myself: my name is Jannine and I have Asperger's, which is on the ASD Spectrum.

Firstly, this is the first time I actually told anyone on the internet that I have Asperger's. So what I did just now, is probably the bravest thing I ever done in my life. Well, I'm a wimp but I went to Disney Land Paris twice, and I was luckily enough to survive.

Anyway. I went through some threads and realised the number of members on AFF are CAN and Autism Speaks haters. That's ok, because I hate them too. I watched the Autism Every Day video, and I think it's staged. I'm sorry but what mother would want to kill their child just because they have Autism. This shows websites like CAN and Autism Speaks want NTs (not all of them) to think of Aspies and Auties as something bad or a 'disease'. Oh, please! And 'cures'? I'm against that; hello?! Are there any Aspies or Auties who want to be 'cured'? If so put your hands up! I don't want to be 'cured', I just want to be myself, and accepted. Don't many Aspies and Auties just want to be accepted?

That's all
Hey up, and welcome to AFF Smile

Disney land? never been, but been to alton towers (UK) and it was OK, but theme parks aren't really my thing either.

Candy floss, now thats another matterBig Grin

Most people here, probably all of them, me lncluded, loath CAN and autism squeaks, that mother, meant what she said, and there have been people who have seen it and killed their kids:/

I don't think many of us want to be cured, there are a few, but not very many, I haven't ever met any IRL.

I say again, welcome to the collective.

Resistance is futileBig Grin

Disney Land is nice. The rides aren't that extreme and really helped me with my fear of heights. I have never been to Alton Towers; I been to Thorpe Park about a million times! Ha! Not really, maybe around many times.

I think AFF is good and the majority of us here want to abolish 'cures' and prenatal testing on Autism. Let's protest outside of the Big Ben!

I really should be more poilte... "Welcome to here." XD
Welcome to AFF.  I see you are a music fan.

Hi JannineBig Grin  Great to see you here, and welcome!  Smile
Welcome here.

And, incidentally, I've been to Disney Land Europe in Paris, too. Big Grin  The most fascinating thing about it was that we went there by TGV, though. At 300 km/h (187.5 mph). Yay!
/facepalm

twice, too.
Welcome to AFF!

The cure side is a problem as it's all that's broadcasted, along with it's messages about autism being a disease and the worst thing that can happen to a family. As a result, most parents think a cure is what is best for their child. Fortunately most of these parents have just gone with what they were told, and there are very few Alison Tepper-Singer types. However most don't see how wanting to cure their child, who they care about, is not acceptance, and I don't think some ever will.

Luckily, even half the curebie parents hate autism speaks. I think that says something about them that even their target market aren't exactly crazy about them.

How did that organisation get so high in estimation when even those that agree with it's primary aim dislike it? It makes no sense!

Same as myself and son. I just want acceptance. A cure? forget it. Then I'm not me. We do have a lot to contribute to the richness of human existence. As for being a disease? I don't think so.Smile
