In these hard times of financial difficulties, wars and despondent thoughts, many people are really struggling.

One of the ways I love to help the people in my area is through charity work.

Does anyone else on AFF do similar things?

It can be something as small as giving your used clothing to a charity, or putting a few food cans in a local food donation bin, or giving a monthly donation.  It can also be a time donation to your favorite charity.

I spent several hours at a local food bank yesterday giving some of my precious time to the people that need help in my area.  The food bank said that 75% of their workforce is volunteer.

This thread is to do three things:

1)  Find out, what do you do to help others less fortunate?

2)  Inspire people to give to others a bit, in any way you can.  Time, money, food, or just a smile can do a lot for people in these rough times.

3)  Share, if you would like, something that you received as a charitable act, that was a big help to you when you really needed it.

Best wishes to you all.  Smile
Me have ideas.

Washington Post reported that people are filling up gas tank part way, and running  out of gas more often, cited sad story of church van driver in Philly, fortunately he dropped off his passengers at airport, and then ran outta gas at Ben Franklin bridge.

Most recent idea is to have hand operated siphon for gas tank, and 1 gallon gas can, because I always have 3/4 tank of gas in my tank, just in case someone needs a gallon or two to make the next gas station.  Some guy today during the heavy rain storm (3PM-3:30 PM EST Wed) was outta gas at the 7-11, asked me if the pumps worked when the electricity was out for several blocks.

I ordered one yesterday, should arrive soon.  It advertised itself as "you carry jumper cables, right, why not this?"

I'm the kind of guy that needs to be ready.

I should order another hand-pump siphon for my CPAP machine.  The humidifer reservior holds water but it is hard to drain, and must be drained before being removed from machine.  (I will try to get a spare face mask and hose for that machine too)

If you do need to evacuate, get your bug out bag ready.
