Has anyone else ever heard of

http://www.cafepress.com/buy/autism

My husband found it and there were some really cool things on there, but everywhere, there were puzzle pieces, even on some of the things I liked!  I was bothered as all heck, because I am pretty sure that the puzzle piece not only came from Autism Speaks, but also because I believe the puzzle piece can be very offensive.

Thoughts, opinions?

(I want to buy him a shirt, not one with a puzzle piece, but am hesitant to support that site.)

What happened to some activists or others on here that were going to make t-shirts - anyone doing that?

I do not like the puzzle pieces either.
Even on different levels, like cooperation, I get itchy.

Maybe you could make your own text and print that on a shirt.

btw I don't see jigsawpuzzle pieces on the ones you like.

Maybe I'm missing the point.

I think I am rambling today, my fault, I have a headache and my brain is rattling around too much in my head.

Two points:

1)  Are the puzzle pieces offensive, and if so, is it because of Autism Speaks?

2)  Is it bad to support a company that offers t-shirts with puzzle pieces, even if I am not buying that design?

1) Yes, and mostly yes - it's mostly offensive because of Autism Speaks, but it also has other offensive connotations (i.e. that we've got a "piece missing", that we need to be "solved", etc).

2) It really depends more on which company it is. A lot of good groups use the puzzle piece just because they've seen it around, and they shouldn't be judged too harshly for it.

I wouldn't boycott them because of the puzzle piece - but I would boycott them because of this statement:

"Every day brings us closer to unlocking the Autism puzzle. Be a part of it! Help to rally the cause by raising awareness and support for the Autism community. Shop for Autism Awareness products and look forward to a day when no child will face Autism."

Darn, see, that is why I had someone else look at it.  I want to get him that one shirt, and will see if I can find it elsewhere.

There has to be a way to make your own shirts.

You can get kits from most hobby stores...

See there would be the issue, I have no talent whatsoever to design my own.  I will ponder this more later.

I've always enjoyed playing around with graphics - if you had any ideas you were thinking about, I could always throw something together...

Pika - I did!

:O you didnt?

Some of Silky's avatars would be great on a t-shirt.
Funny,

Walking in a park nearby we often see one Llama, between about 20 goats. We do wonder if he/she feels a bit like us.....
I've been buying from them for a while. They even have family crest t-shirts, pretty obscure I think. I'm a Blount on my Mom's side and I'd love to get the family crest on a tee sometime...

His stuff is not really catchy...

It needs to be eye-catching and meaningful
