I wanted to reply to this by Evilzakkie in a thread in activism/discussion about someone wanting to make a documentary:

"Where I live, there's a little student-run cinema that can be hired out from $30-50 a night. Sell 3-5 $10 tickets, and we've covered costs, and anything on top of that is profit.

Hopefully, with a little bit of research, we can find similar places in a lot of different cities. University film nights would be a good option, for example.

The funds raised probably wont be amazing, but I think this project has more to do with getting the documentary shown than it does with raising money.

And as a last resort, we've always got the net... "

But there's no quick reply, and when I click on reply I get an error message:

What's going on?

I wanted to say it's not that simple, films need a classification in order to be shown in a cinema (see information about anti-arms activists who weren't allowed to screen their film on the verge, allegedly because it hadn't been classified - y'know, 12, PG, 18 - http://www.indymedia.    org.uk/en/2008/03/       394558.html )
As far as this bit goes:

It's a good point, and it's something we're going to have to think about.

There's probably going to be lots of other bureaucratic hurdles to jump as well, but as Nathans been saying, it's all stuff we can worry about after we've made the movie. After all, we've always got the net as a last resort.

Feel free to join up to the activists group, btw - you'll be more than welcome...

On another point - why is that link broken?

I've noticed a lot of people getting into the habit of breaking all links for some reason - any reason why?
Lulu is an old hand, and, if I recall, there was a time when you asked for all links to curebie websites to be broken, so as not to boost them up in search engines.

some people, myself included, just got into the habit of breaking all the links we posted (I think CBC told me that I only had to do it for some sites...)
I break links because I was told early on that the links were to be broken for sites that AFF consider against their grain.  However, often I'm not sure which ones the site would  consider okay and which would not be okay.  I can't tell.  So breaking them is to be on the safe side to avoid violating a rule.

As far as that goes, don't worry too much if you're not sure about whether or not a link will stay. If you accidentally leave a link to a pro-cure site, the only thing that will happen is that someone will request the link be broken, and one of the mods will edit the post to do so.
