Yeah, why not?!  Cool

But who ....?
Jezus???

Allways looking for a place to be alone. Not understood by most of the people. Having a vocabulary of his own. And sometimes even a meltdown. I don't know. But I'm thinking more and more he fits all the criteria of an aspie.

It might scare of non christians though. So maybe some-one else would be better. And I'd love it if it was a female.
Oops, I do need to go to bed.
What about Quan Yin? She's most related to Buddhism, but other religions include her too. She's also not technically a god(dess) in the traditional sense, but a very enlightened being.

Rebellious of her father too. And very, very compassionate, always there for people in their hour of need with practical help. That sums up how Aspies try to help those they love I think - not always great at saying the right things, but loyal, trustworthy, dependable and really always there.
I recommend a probable Aspie:

St. Isidore of Seville - "As a writer, Isidore was prolific and versatile to an extraordinary degree. His voluminous writings may be truly said to constitute the first chapter of Spanish literature. It is not, however, in the capacity of an original and independent writer, but as an indefatigable compiler of all existing knowledge, that literature is most deeply indebted to him."

Saint Isadore was also named Patron Saint of the Internet several years ago.
Check out St. Thomas Aquinas.

Summa Theologica anyone?  Systematic thought?  According to that biography I read[1], "he wrote hymns like a man on vacation" from the Summa.

Classmates gave him a hard time, even called him "the dumb ox".  Was a large, lumbering man (read: dyspraxia)

(he's also the St. I picked at baptism... hence my name.)
I started a religion, feel free to use someone from that as a patron saint.

25 followers world wide cant be wrong. :p

alectrum

Who was it that coined the word 'neurodiversity'?
uh... wait. are we bickering about religion already?!

so, if we have a patron saint, what about the people who do not follow that religion?
you immediately, subtly, taint the place against them.
NO! thats not a good idea...

Agreed.  No to a patron saint.

I can't say that I'm the patron Saint. It's just my sig Wink
Look, I really don't mind if people, privately, believe in such hocus pocus and want to invent their own saint - privately.

But I really object to having some pseudo-religious bollocks foisted upon Aspies as a group.

I don't try to foist my religion on you, so kindly stop trying to foist your religious beliefs on others.

It's one thing for people to generally discuss their religious beliefs or religion in general, but asking people to agree to adhere to this is another thing entirely.  And totally out of order.

Mods:  Can this thread be locked.  It's highly inappropriate.
I think having a patron saint is a nice idea. It wont appeal to everyone, but many cant even agree on a name for 'aspergers/aspies/diffabled/spectrumites ad infinitum'.
Having a specific figurehead gives people something positive to focus on.
A saint is still a person, so the religious attribute isnt the full story. Many orgs seem to have a celebrity or royalty as their patron.
It might be hard to get someone living to choose to be our patron, stephen spielberg would be nice.
If we pick someone who is dead they cannot complain or opt out, I suppose Einstein has been in general use for some time as a kind of example figure of someone different, unique, etc.
There's a difference between a patron *saint*, which does have a religious dimension, and an organisation having a patron, which doesn't.

For example, Jane Asher is a patron of NAS, for example.  I don't have a problem with something like that.

I very much object to a patron saint being foisted upon us.  I really don't want someone else to foist their religion on me.  It's highly objectionable.  It's extremely offensive to me.
