Emo?  I wish someone would explain this new word.

Emo is a subculture influenced by Punks and Goths. They are known for expressing their negative emotions a lot.

Emo= Emotional

I think I will abstain from watching the utube link - especially if someone is acting like a jerk. Hopefully there is so much out there - in the world wide web-  that the bad mixes in with the good - maybe the "bad name" associations will be diluted by all the good...
alectrum - I am surprised at your language!
I run into him here and there - he lives not far from me - and hangs out here at the "Shore" him and Springsteen - but I never cared for him - too soft - I think I will always think of him in that limp termed way from now on... thanks a lot!
So Joel - are there really alot of emo people? What age group are they?
To be clear.. Oh, Springsteen I like - just saw him the next town over in a benefit concert - but bon jovi I have seen in concert too - too soft!

Emos are usually in their teens and twenties and along with Chavs, they  are the biggest subculture of my generation. They like to think themselves a civilised subculture compared to there Chavvy counterparts but they are just as obnoxious (displayed more in a bitching way rather than brutish).

see I knew I shouldn't watch that - I've no interst in retching or feeling AAAAAAAARGH!!!!

but see - if someone acts an ***- they get attention - and lots of hits - it's no wonder they act like they do...
(still will not look)
emos sound awful

Now then, I shouldn't judge a subculture by one of it's followers.

no, Emos are no worse than Goths, or Grungers, or Aspies; but it depends on the subject in question.

just like with us, you get arseholes and you get decent people.

Agreed. Smile

I meant you shouldn't judge a subculture by one of it's followers. Still, good advice through.

I don't think he's a fake because he's being a prick, and I don't think he's being a prick because he's emo. I think he's just a bit of a prick.

Not the best rep for us, really. Or for that matter, for emos.

I haven't said he is being a prick for being emo. In addition when commenting my concern that he doesn't have Aspergers, I said how annoyed I am that Aspies and Emos are always associated with each other.

He gives aspiieeee..

a bad name!

(I had to, the Bon Jovi references! I couldn't resist!)
(never heard of an emo till this thread - and maybe people in the Uk have but I doubt people can really put the two together unless too many aspies doth protest too much - with threads putting the two together...)
I liken it (perhaps) to a bunch of years ago - my generation of american youth - was all called gen-x-ers - and on TV or MTV welooked like a bunch of ***es with no skills - no merit in that -just a silly generality... (maybe)

Emo subculture is big in America as well in Britain, but I do noticed some difference of style between American Emos and British Emos, even through the variations are blurring due to globalisation. As for chavs they are typically British and like the Jocks in America the Chavs are very intolerant of other subcultures (trust me, I do A-level sociology).

^ Agree, there's another thing I like to add, I hate it when people assciate goths as devil worshipers because it's pure ignorance.

Look at what happened to Sophie Lancaster and her boyfriend, attacked for simply the way they dress, she unfortunatly died a few days later in hospital but her boyfriend survived but is scared to go say on public transport after what happened to him.

Makes me sick, I thought we lived in the 21st century where people learned to be more tolerant, seems like we aren't. Sad
alectrum asked at 2:58Pm what is a face palm and the very next post was Pika showing what a facepaml is - I think before jumping to conclusions we all should read the posts....
