did anyone else watch the Phoenix land last night?
Err what Phoenix? where?
The Phoenix..?

Mars lander?
Yes, huge relief and am very pleased it went perfectly.  I assume that mass consumption followed the event.
a 0.25-0.3 degree tilt?

damn. thats uh. perfect.
ah right sorry dont watch any news stuff so i never know about anything like that. i was thinkin of large bird from fire type phoenix!!
Sorry, I don't have time for this.
But yes, great thing. What are our next goals, mankind?
Bring a human to Mars? Or distinguish Autism from the World?
What's more expensive?
All the autistic children beeing born or our next step to space?

Sorry, but I was exactly thinking of this before I read this thread
the Phoenix used pulsed thrusters, as opposed to the traditional "air cushion".

that means, that heavier, larger loads can be send.

wither this means up to colony infrastructure is debatable, but...it is a step in the right direction.
blast. up to infrastructure *size*
It was awesome! I was so glad that it made it okay.
(silky's not quite spectrum, complex quasi SO answering):

Yes, Pikajedi, I did watch the live broadcast from the JPL mission control room.  (One of the public access channels in my local cable provider switched to NASA TV for the landing.)  I am fortunate enough to interact with some of these people, and my career has been focused on long-duration spaceflight, so I was standing and cheering and feeling just a twinge of supportive pride for the accomplishment and envy that I did not get to take part.  It's hard for many people to recognize how much of the scientists' and engineers' *lives* are taken up in these missions, and how much passion and imagination and dedication is devoted by these people to these activities.

The Phoenix has landed, and is reborn.  (I was delighted with the symbolism of the vehicle / mission name, directly referencing its creation out of the failure of the prior missions.)

Bear, looking over silky's shoulder
Has anyone heard of pictures coming out by now? They had said that pictures should be available by now...
