"The cells responded the same way whether the monkey reached out to grasp a peanut, or merely watched in envy as another monkey or a human did."

Envy.  Jealous.    According to the Christian moral system, envy is a sin.
Do I really need envy to be "normal"?  Envy and jealousy are not something that I need to make me happy.

I think Eve must have been the first aspie.  After all, the serpent deceived her into taking the apple and eating.  Adam blamed her for giving him the apple.  Then God told them they were no longer innocent.

Hmmm.
Well, Jesus wasn't a typical NT--he was compassionate, logical, patient, didn't give into petty emotions, stood apart from the social conventions and institutions, tried to teach the spirit of the law, not the letter, spoke out for women and the downtrodden--but was socially adept!

Getting back to this article on mirror neutrons--this makes sense to me as to why NTs are able to subconciously figure out cues from each other and how to respond to each other.  But this is not mindreading.  They can't figure each other out that well.  They may be able to discern from body language how to continue a conversation but can be easily fooled by someone who just knows how to use the correct body language. Like for example, people who are lying are supposed to not be able to hold eye contact but someone who knows this just concentrates on holding eye contact. (And this doesn't take into consideration that someone who is afraid of being thought as lying when they're not will look away, uncomfortable, at someone's accusing stare.)  And they are more apt to believe someone's words, anyway.  I may have developed or got better at actual mind reading as a child in an attempt to understand NTs when I couldn't figure out what they were thinking/doing.  I 'reach' into their minds to get their emotions or thoughts.  I am usually able to get out their emotions this way (although I sometimes misinterpret the emotions as to meaning or intent) and can't always get thoughts, usually they have to be strong and simple. And I don't get them in exact words but impressions of words.  I try to keep it turned off mostly because being able to receive peoples' emotions is overwhelming, but if their emotion(s) are strong I will receive them anyway. If I have a connection with a person and they send me a direct thought or emotion I can often receive it from far away.  I can connect with animals this way too, because they project something that is between a thought and an emotion (in human terms).  If you send it back they will receive it.  They also 'touch' each other this way to give comfort and feel a connection with each other.
Ialways thought that mind-reading, that is actually reading a person's or animal's thoughts, could be done through spiritual mediumship.
Geez, I thought the article was stupid. Now I see betwixt's and M's posts on this second page, and they blow the article clear out of the water.

I don't think saying that people's perceptions are stupid is necessary. I'd feel horrible if you said that to me so I empathize that people who have posted here would feel the same. It's okay to disagree, but how are we ever to learn the potentials we have as Aspies if we are shamed for talking about what goes in our inner state?
