Full Version: So we need a few good people

See the title of this thread. To establish a trust or other entity, we need a few dedicated people to serve as trustees/directors.
I am not sure how I can help, in what country would the trust be based?

What would be the purpose of said trust?
From the earlier discussion, it seems like it might be best to have UK people directing a UK trust for ease of use. But if none can be found, or if there's an easy way around signatures and similar logistical problems, I'd be happy to put my hand up.
I am in the US.  Not sure if I can be of assistance from here, if the trust is based in the UK.  Do we have any practicing attorneys in the UK in AFF?
I'm interested. I'm on the committee of an organisation that supports people with autism in the South East and I'm also possibly going to be the trustee of an IT project for people on the spectrum.

So I'm interested as long as my being involved in other organisations is okay and also as long as you don't mind a person who is also learning disabled being involved.
I'm actually thinking that it may be simpler to base this in the US if most of the good people are in the US. Setting it up would take about 24 hours in the UK if everyone involved was able to talk in realtime (need to exchange details like address and NI number etc) so that would be simpler to do. But if most of the good people are actually in the US then we'll have to investigate that path. My own knowledge is specific to the way things work in the UK, but I can not imagine the US being too different and of course it does not matter if I personally am on the board, just that the board is made up of some good and trustworthy individuals.
Sorry, forgot to clarify the purpose:

The autfinity project needs a charitable organisation or some other legal entity that has protections against abuse of funds to raise money and keep it in a protected manner.

If the decision is made to do it in the US, I will be happy to do the research on the laws for setting it up.  Please let me know.

If you'd like to research the relevant law and post your findings, that would be a great help. As to other matters:

Having experience with other charitable organisations is an asset, not a liability.

This gentleman seems to have a lot of information right here.  I am actually at work at the moment, but can certainly break it down more when I have more time.

I am willing to work in a trustee capacity for an Autfinity trust.  I am not a financier but am a molecular biologist and laboratory manager.
All that's required is these traits:
Trustworthiness
Rational and clear-minded decision maker
Good with handling money (this does not necessarily mean raising funds, simply having wise financial judgement)
Dedicated to the goals

I suspect that the way this will function is that we will require a small board to perform the required legal duties and setup a bank account in the name of the charity/trust's name. We will then have general volunteers help with raising funds and the funds may selectively be invested through whatever instruments seem in the best judgement of the board with external advice to give the most growth potential. At first I would think that simple fundraising and storing the funds in high interest accounts is enough.

We will need to set an upper limit at which we say "now is the time to spend these funds". This is just one of many things that needs some heavy discussion. Another goal is of course to research potential locations to purchase land or an island and to find the best means of developing such land. Some of this may be outsourced later, but as the old saying goes: the journey of a thousand miles begins with one step. In our case, that one step is finding the right people to do the task of protecting any funds raised.
I'm willing to help if you guys need me.
