One of my former students has his own company now.
It's a very interesting startup, with a good chance to success.
Also the work seems to be more fitting to me.
Maybe some of his expectations are a little bit too high.
I will tell him about AS and all that in the next days, so he'll not expect me to do things completely out of my range.
My benefits he allready knows.
And I'm really unhappy with my current job, expecially after they told me last week, that they are not willing to promote me any further.
the only thing is, that the current job is steady. I can stay here forever, if I want to and this new job is still a risk. you never know.
I don't know how to decide. If it was only about me, I'd take this new job tomorrow but I also have to support a family with four children.

What does your wife think about it?  Have you discussed it with her?

Will this job be any closer to home, do you not have to travel a fair bit at the moment?

Sorry, lots of questions! It's a huge decision though, especially as you have job security where you are.  From what you say, though, it does seem that the security part is what is currently most attractive about the job you're in.
Ooops, forgot to say Congratulations on the job offer.

Congratulations!!!
My wife says, that I should decide what ever is the best for me. She can't tell as well.
Yes, I discussed it with my wife.
The job will not be closer to home, but I'll get a car and it's a better road for driving (less jam)
And it's less secure.
And thanks for the congratulations.
Congratulations.

I say take the new job.

My husband was in a similar position - he had worked for a very large monopolised service industry (hope that makes sense) for too long. He could have stayed there ... but he'd lost too much interest. He went for the new job in new business started up by his brotherinlaw - and as with any new business ... there have being worries.
But his new job has sparked up a new interest- and added positively to his life.

I'll count your vote!

I say take the job. My husband retrained as an electrician aged 44.  He had struggled in his office environment and wasn't really cut out for a management role.  He enjoys what he does now.

A large part of one's life is spent at work.  No-one should spend a large part of their life being unhappy.

I think I would try to look at numbers for success or failure rate of  the type of new business it is. With certain kinds of businesses, more new ones fail than make it.  For example, (in my area) new restaurants, limo services and construction companies have a notoriously high failure rate.
