They view us as a bunch of whiny, selfish people
Oh please, like this is restricted to AFF? It's the modus operandi of all message boards. Go to http://www.bentrideronline.com [I'm JoeBent] and see what a bunch of whiny, selfish people we are [also, check out some cool bikes]. All we talk about is our bikes, rides we went on and how bad the auto drivers are.
Internet forums are places to talk bout oneself, oneself in relation to the the narrow definition of the subject of the forum, and complain about things in relation to said subject. Of course, the cool part is we get a chance to reach out to all those other whiny, selfish people we identify with and, occasionally, make a difference in their lives.
I actually didn't hear of AFF until very recently. It started last month as my looking up Autism. I went to the Wikipedia article and looked at the autism culture article out of curiousity. I was led to a list of websites relating to the autism rights movement and there I found AFF. I haven't really heard anything about AFF except for a comment someone made on aspieweb.net about how the fact that Grumpy Old Rossco is liked here says a lot about the direction AFF is going in. I'm quite sure that was meant to be negative.
I'm not trying to say anything negative about Rossco. I'm just saying that someone else made a nasty comment about him. I would like to get to know him because he seems popular here. So far, I think AFF is a positive place to be, even if there are disagreements.
Hahahahahahaha! That's funny. I am already getting a comical image of virtual cops putting members in a virtual prison while they just get on with their lives in real life. That just made my day. (You caused what I was drinking to blow out my nose, but I'm just thankful it wasn't soda. It hurts.)

Someone did that to me the other day, but it was food! I am still trying to get it out of my keyboard. LOL!
(Glad I made your day! No alkie drinks for you, you wee lass!)
Hmm...on another thread, it looks like Rossco has misunderstood a comment that I made. I put up another one and hopefully, I have ended a large vendetta before it started. I also mentioned that I would like to get to know him better.

Sorry about that, Korrigan.
Over here AFF is considered radical and childish because of imature behaviors, and did you guys try to make aspies a seperate race (thats the rumor!). Frankly to be honest you guys really do match your what the public feels about you if you ask me.
There are hundreds of active forum users/posters on here. That statement most likely is based on you personal experiences with less than the number of fingers on one hand.
Don't let it get to you and try to continue in a positive direction. You know being immature isn't bad in and of itself.
I'm refering to what people around me feel about AFF - and frankly you guys at times are a hell of a lot worse then Autism Speaks for self-advocacy.
Over the past several months I have asked a few people to come to AFF and tell me what they think. None have ever said anything nice or positive. They view us as a bunch of whiny, selfish people who do not understand a thing about the truth about curing autism. They see our fear of being 'killed off' as laughable or paranoid.
When I bring up Downs Syndrome and the abortion issue, they say autism cant be compared to Downs Syndrome. They basically want nothing to do with AFF and our views on a cure.
to be honest - the bolded part is often the behavior shown here, and frankly its no wonder that people don't take AFF seriously.
Thanks for your opinion on us. As you believe this why do you piss off? No-one is stopping you and if it is such a pain to be here then don't subject yourself to it. Want us look at your claim to fame in the Aspie Advocacy. Autism Speaks fiasco or the Google fiasco. You are not the benefit to us you think you are and you dislike this place, so how about you don't let your arse hit the door on the way out? (How's that for frankness, you arrogant, pumped up little nerd!)
No purely TheZach's "To be frank" views. I think most people choosing to be at a forum, like yourself are at the forum to foster community spirit and because they like the forum. Of course there are trolls and flamers and a***holes with other agendas who don't really give a *** about the forum and are happy to treat the forum with contempt. This forum deserves better of course.
TheZach by his own admission does not like the forum and its people and I think it would be better for everyone if he left and went wherever it is he feels a belonging or somewhere he cares about. It clearly isn't here.
I do agree the Aspie Supremacy thing is a form of bigotry that REALLY offends me.
You can not justify some positions....that is one of them
I've only met one other person who has heard of AFF. He's an Aspie who I occasionally converse with at the library. He agrees with AFF's philosophy (anti-cure) but he doesn't want to join. He said that when he started reading posts here, he came across instances where people had viciously lashed out at each other, and that scared him off. I told him that AFF has such a huge membership that he'd probably never encounter any of those people (and if they were that terrible, I'm assuming they would have eventually been warned or even banned) but he still wasn't convinced. I know that many of us tend to focus on the negative rather than the positive aspects of anything, so I guess that's the case with him; letting a few negative people scare him away, instead of focusing on the vast majority of friendly, helpful people. I feel badly about it.
