Dunno if you meant it as a joke, but I laughed out loud at this statement.

The, um, actually only once in my life I actually worked out in a gym I didn't have any problems with the equipment.  Then, I'm actually quite well coordinated.

ATM, I love your posts - I like that my family (And many of you AFFers) is not hte only family that sees the blatantly obvious writing on the wall.. about ebing controlled by drugs and pharmeac-- here is what you wrote it is so much better :" Imagine that, using a narcotic to cure a neurological modality!  This is the fulfillment of a lot of what I suspected was coming, a society controlled by drugs, surveillance, and expanded police power.  Psychology, the best vehicle by which to address Autism, has been replaced by psychiatry.  People would rather have their children be drugged in to being NT's than being accepted as what they are, and encouraged to be the best that they can be, with all resources put at their disposal to help cure them of co-morbid symptoms.  "

but to your threads point here..
My son is strong and beautiful, but your description of what you have to do to negotiate certain things - like in your case the bar- is exactly like my son.
ATM wrote: "Now, let me address your point.  What is "high functioning" but a modality?  If one is drunk, G-d forbid, one is not very high functioning.  One is high functioning if one functions highly.  There is no designation written in stone.  I believe that a person can choose to be high functioning, within their sphere.  If it means picking up a pencil after struggling with a muscular dysfunction, than that is high functioning for that person.  I would be low functioning if I got embarrassed, left the Gym, and never came back.  However, I choose to be high functioning and to be the best I can be.  I choose to live.  Thus, I am high functioning."

Love the way you express this. Word!
It's oxytocin.... A bonding hormone released in moms and babies while nursing.  It opens up certain brain stuff to allow bonding on that deep and elusive level.  It is a very interesting idea.... NOT a narcotic at all.

What do you mean by this? It seems funny, except I'm not sure why. lol.

ATM: Well, look at it this way.  On another thread, they are talking about the potential of the medical establishment using oxycontin to "cure" Autism.  Imagine that, using a narcotic to cure a neurological modality! ("Cure" vs. "Anti-cure" is a morally complex issue that is best addressed elsewhere, by someone more interested in the issue)

Thus, I put this thread up to celebrate an experience.  I *enjoy* being a little befuddled at the Gym.  It is part of what makes life interesting. I do not want to be "cured" of this. The fact that I may not always be so high functioning actually gives my life some definition.  It means that I can laugh at myself a little bit.  I think that it keeps me humble.  I laugh at how I must look in front of all of these "exercise yuppies."  I think that I actually liven their day, or at least my own.

Now, let me address your point. Thus, I am high functioning.

Come to the Gym sometime.  Have a good laugh!  Maybe I can put on a real show and try to juggle bar bells next time.Big GrinShyRolleyesWinkSmile

All the best.

Oxytocin "The hormone of love and cuddle chemical, oxytocin."
and oxycontin are two very differnet things... Wasn't oxycontin what Rush Limbaugh abused the pain killer?"Rush Limbaugh’s drugs of choice, according to police and media reports, were OxyContin, hydrocodone (also known as Vicodin) and Lorcet. ..."

What thread is it that talks about WHICH of these drugs to be given to kids? (I loved the ocytocin feeling from nursing my three kids- very mellowing and helpful towards creating the next child - I was nursing and pregnant twice... (fond sigh)
Lol.

You sound like you fail at gym equipment.

For the price of seeming creepy, look around at how other people are doing it.Stare and perfect it like an OCD on speed.Try to balance yourself out using anything possible.

If people call you weird, flip 'em off.
Cool
WOW.  thank you.  No one has ever said that before.  I really liked it.  Now I feel very welcome!!! query back.... can you get addicted to hormones?

ATM: I am not saying that I oppose it 100%.  It might be an intriguing idea.  What I am suggesting is that we have a healthy dose of skepticism, as with anything.  We have too many addicts as it it.

All the best, Jedimom777, and thank you for posting on my thread.  Don't be a stranger!Smile

ATM: Which hormones in particular?  I am not a Physician, mind you.

Well, I have heard that people can become addicted to Steroids.... and they react with or mimic hormones... I doubt seriously if anyone could become addicted to Oxytocin.  Have you rad Simon Baron Cohens New york times op ed article on the testosterone levels of babies?
Trippy.

B"H

Well, I did it again today.  I went to the Gym, and had someone show me how a piece of equipment would work.  It was the same question I asked last week, and probably the week before.  However, it was a lot better for some reason.  I think that I am getting the hang of this "equipment thing."

All the best.
By the way, I would appreciate it if knowledgeable people would participate in this other thread on "stimming."  I am interested in the subject because I do this, in prayer (as is a cultural tradition), but also in other areas that are not cultural traditions, such as finger motions with a pencil or a spoon:

I would like to figure out if this is normally an "Asperger" trait, or if it might suggest that I have other forms of Autism with it.

Thank you.

All the best.
Monothesiest this is a cool post.  Hey, i once fell of a treadmill, deliberately!  Im banned from them now, but that was fun.
How good are you ar math ... specificly, do you know how to times without having to remember all the products? I can regognise some prime numbers intuitivley, but my brain can't figure out how to do the timesing process.

ATM: Oh, I don't know how good I am, really.  I enjoy the subject.  I also enjoy teaching it.

I am currently an armchair number theorist.  The good folks over at Ask Dr. Math are getting a little tired of me...I guess it's time for another donation.Big Grin

All the best.

Do you use an actual bench press? Or do you use the auto-balance ones? Because if it's the first one I'm already amazed because I can't even try to balance those. As for loading them though, I usually organized them on the floor or something first, seemed to help =) I've always found my biggest problem with working out (I took a body-mech class in school) is probably those things you do curls with. They always swayed back and forth when I'd pull them up and I can never really could figure out why. It was fun and laughing about it helped a lot. =)

(Hope that was on topic ^^" I'm bad at that)
