I usually imagine it as either some place very cold and isolated (like Antarctica or one of the surrounding islands), or as a massive floating city cobbled together out of old oil platforms and barges and stuff (kind of like a crude version of the Freedom Ship, http://www.freedomship.com/ ).

Well, you could come to northern Canada.  We're always looking for people to actually live up there so we can continue to claim it's ours.

I don't recommend it, though.  Really, really cold.

It should be somewhere with nice weather.

But aw, I wanted it to be called Autasia.

Guess it would be inland then.

Nah, I want somewhere with a coast!

I repeat, if you wish to live somewhere cold and unpleasant and cold Canada pays people extra money just for living way up north.  But seriously, you really don't want to.  And you don't want to be in Greenland when the Global Warming starts really messing with the climate; remember The Day After Tomorrow.

Okay, me use not big words for not smart people:

Changes in seasons not same thing as cold all time.  You savvy that?  Or do me have to make it more easy?

Second, those of us who don't live in Delusionia know that "The Day After Tomorrow" IS NOT A DOCUMENTARY BUT IS A WORK OF FANTASY!

I was not being entirely serious with the movie reference, y'know.

Also, I have an (old, 20001) map of the population distribution of Canada for you.

Y'notice anything?  There is a reason for that.  Not cold all the time but really really cold in the winter and really really short summers.  No need to get all snappy 'nstuff.

XDDD

I live in canada and it's 31 degrees celcius right now. We're more a place of extremes then pure cold.
Ok I can't see the picture so link.

Anyway, yeah, it's too hot here as well right now.  But setting up shop in Greenland-like longitudes, where the government gives out 'we're sorry it's so cold' bonuses is not such a good idea.
Latitude.  I totally just thought 'ok, longitude is the up and down one, you want latitude' and then wrote longitude anyway.  Dammit.

What about choosing industries to focus on?  Gotta make money to pay for all this.  What are some industries in which the Aspie thought process is a strong advantage?

Inventing.
Writing.
Researching.
Computers.
Pattern Searching.
Maths (although, as Batman points out, not always. same goes for all of the above.)

the limits are only defined by the interests of the people within the community.

Let's take a quick in-depth look at software.  What's something Aspies would have no problem doing in programming that would drive most other people nuts?

My guess would be taking pieces of the code and translating them "by hand" from third- and fourth-generation languages into assembly language.  (You'd have to have a version for every type of microprocessor that would be running the program, and do it all over again every time a new microprocessor hits the market.)  The goal of that being to make the programs run faster than they would if they had been sent through a compiler, by minimizing the number of clock cycles needed to perform each elemental task.  This would probably be more for the algorithmic parts of programs and not so much for the front-end stuff that actually communicates with the user.  Just a thought.

Thank you for spelling algorithm right.  My faith in humanity has been restored and I feel rewarded for not correcting the last time I saw it spelled wrong.

On a less pedantic note, that sounds totally mind-numbing.  I don't think theres actually one thing that aspies would be really good at; we would probably have to run an economy just like everyone else does.  Probably more focused on the research and learning and such end of things, but you'd need to actually produce some stuff as well.

And what is your point?  I said I wanted seasonal VARIATION, not SHORT summers.  Are you really unable to tell the difference between "short" and "hot"?

You actually didn't say you wanted anything, you grunted something about how changing temperature's don't mean it's cold all the time.  My point is that YOU DO NOT WANT TO LIVE THERE BECAUSE IT IS VERY COLD MOST OF THE TIME..  Got it?  Good, now you can stop posting caustic replies.

You'd probably be better off in some city with a Metro system- you need people to employ us.  It is wishful thinking to think you could have your own hiding place with its own economy and industry.  No way.  Unless it is an island mining bird ***.

So do you think Aspergia is morew likely to be a city-state like Monaco or Singapore?

Sorry to yak on about the city-state idea, but I think it’s more possible to achieve than a nation. A long time ago when I was looking on the news on the internet there was an article on a town within California which was put on ebay. I say why don’t  we by an unused settlement and build it up into a self-governing prosperous city for Aspies, sure there are some possibilities to achieve this. Also I should mention that in the Netherlands there was a city built for the elderly, so why not a city for us.

Joel,

Singapore and Monaco are both Nations[i], with all the powers of a sovereign state.  Admittedly, Monaco has delegated some powers to France, but they are still considered a sovereign state.  One of the main arguements used against the idea of Aspergia is that full sovereignity would be inpractical or impossible.

Well the examples I used are sovereign city-states. I know where you coming from but really I hadn't said that an Aspie city should have their own sovereignty. But we could be a self-governing territoy within another country, like the special administration regions of Hong Kong and Macau in China. My favourite idea is the Aspie city to be a crown dependency of the UK.
