In other contexts like church, obsessive political or religious interests, strong fascinations with say, personal finance, complains of weak social ties with friends neighbors and women.

The one confirmed Aspie I know of..... would rather work as a security guard even though he has a computer science degree, and has brought the world certain political witticisms, some possibly original, such as

Ellen Degenerate
New Age Sewage
The Washington Compost
Bovine Sewage and Toro Poo Poo (as a substitute for Bull Sh*t)

New age sewage, hah, I gotta remember that one, I'm gonna use that for a black metal song title, I'm writing something atm and that is a rockin title!

If you don't mind of courseSmile

I gotta ask him-- well, maybe not, you can't patent a political retort can you?  Can you?  He could use the money in any case.

The Washington Post is a newspaper with a liberal reputation.

Ever notice that Washington ComPost and Washingtonpost.com are anagrams (minus the dot?)
When I worked with autistic (so-called LFA) children in 2001 I think they knew I was on their spectrum.

Silence Wrote:
The mother of a severely autistic boy recognized it immediately in me and told my mother that after my diagnosis.

One of my friends, who knows I've got AS, thinks I ought to tell it to more people, because she saids that some people find me quite strange and that they would understand it better if I told them about it. I don't know yet. I'm not embarrassed for it or anything, but I am afraid they are going to pity me, or treat me differently.

But I thought it was on an instinctual level.

Yeah, it is interesting, isn't it? The mother told me that she saw it in the way I was standing, moving, avoiding eye contact and my hand gestures. At that time, we had never even spoken to each other, but recently she told me that she suspects that she has AS herself.

I look much younger (I've been estimated at late twenties) than I really am (38).

Maybe that is why I seem to attract the attention of a 26 year old woman now.

Maybe that is why I did not seem to attract the attention of anyone five years ago, if I looked like a freshly minted college graduate.

Joined Equally Yoked Christian Singles at age 31 (apparent age 21??), in February 2002
Organization seemed to stop functioning when I was 35 (apparent age 25??)
If the Selective Service comes knocking, I need to remind them that I am really 38, not 28.
"Yeah, sure you are, come on......."

Mom remembers a young woman with the masculine name of Edmunday, and the draft boys came looking for "him", and once that little matter was settled they never came back for her.
I would almost remind him Ellen is getting married, to provoke a reaction....

This guy hated the individual Democrats like Bella Abzug whom he insists killed the space program and his dream of being an astronaut- the closest he gets to being an astronaut is the Buck Rogers uniform.

I told him, Bella Abzug died of a heart attack.  He replied, what heart?

Definite obsessive interests and rigid tendencies.

Yeah... that costume.  Judging by the speeding tickets he got at one time, I think the show got into his head a little.
That uniform was created by a TV producer with sex on his mind.... not by a military branch.  The women would never stand for it, having to practically take it off every time they go to the loo, toilet, crapper, etc.

Any decent military would have a separate bottom and top for both men and women--- hello?

Poor Aspie guys at the B.R. conventions- they get to look but never touch....

I could possibly imagine my wife maybe doing the Wilma routine....  No, this is not a phaser, this is a erogenizer....  and there's nothing else under here....

Curious... Am I correct to assume the guy owns a costume similar to the one Gil Gerard wore in the lead role of a certain 70s sci-fi show?  [laughs]  Even among sci-fi geeks, Buck Rogers isn't all that popular.

garmonbozia,
  Except for...

My aspdar went off twice at work and twice more around church....
They might have seen a lot of "emotionally disturbed" kids like myself and know an Aspie when they see one, whether or not they heard of Asperger or its labels.

Suffice it to say teachers know the kids they teach.

Some might even realize some Aspies are very gifted, and they are the
opposite of MR/DD.  In the 7th grade, my later 8th grade science teacher tried to get me interested building a simple computer.

ATM: Some who have worked as Special Education teachers seem to notice.  How, I cannot fathom.

All the best.

Now I am sorry I shared that.  Yes, he is a hard liner.

I'm sure that passes for witty in your social circles. Second grade homophobic ***.

Chris, what is wrong with you?

Give that question some serious thought: what is wrong with you?

I gave this guy my old pre-USB Pentium computer when I upgraded to a Dell Dimension 2350, and later gave him an old monitor for it too.  My brother and I offered to help him install software on it- we are begging him to use it,  But if he did, he might be here, wouldn't he?
We would never read the end of it.
