I took a picture of myself (well, actually, the back of my head) a while ago. Here it is:

If you didn't get the picture, go to:

and scroll down until you see a huge image appear.

I took the picture myself, in case you're wondering about the photographer.

As I said on this page, "Check 'Itt' out before this offer ends!"

I took it with a chair, a digital camera (hooked up to the computer), and some books and stuff (to prop it up). When I got my head in the right position, I clicked the mouse. It took twice or three times to get it right, though.

I took some good photographs of myself when I was studying art at college.  The instructors could never quite believe I took them myself, but I did.

Here are some fun techniques to try with a camera that has a timer.  Actually a remote switch could be used too.    I would use a mirror on the tripod and put a mark on the wall just at the top of my head.  Then I would put a teddy bear up to the mark where my head was.  I would put the camera on the tripod and then focus.  Set the timer.  Replace my head with teddy and take the picture.

Lighting is really important.  I was using b&W film so an incandescent bulb was ok.  Otherwise I would try to get good sunlight outside or close to a window.   Sometimes I would get to use the studio on campus but I had to book it.

Another trick I used was with a mirror, camera and timer.  I would lie down on my back and hold the camera between my feet, my feet being up in the air.  This is what I call the yoga of photography.  I would use auto focus.  I can't remember.  I would use the mirror to try to see if I was getting the right "aim" with the camera.  Usually I was a bit off center in the shot but I would just crop the final result.

I actually liked to photography real people.  I found it difficult to get models.  I am a woman and I prefer to photograph woman.  I would try to get other students to model and just tell I couldn't pay but I would give them prints in return.  One woman just looked at me like I was some serial killer.  I did get a few people I knew to model with excellent results but usually I could get what I wanted by photographing myself.

There are particular ways that you can photography yourself in a mirror.   Look in some photography books.
