Hello! I am wanting to change laws here in Florida. I am striving to be more political and wish to give talks to groups. Organizer of Autism Society of Florida wants me to go to Tallahassee, the state capitol to filibuster as needed! So hey! I started talking conversationally when I was 17, in February 15, 1968. I remember dates.

Any ideas about good (better) conditions of laws and opportunities for Autism people elsewhere in other countries or provinces or states in the world? Anywhere? Where on Earth is it a good life or a helpful life for Autism Spectrum people? Where is there an archetype place on the map?

I am new here. I have to wait until my account here kicks in before I can upload an avatar-pic. So this acct is new.
What specific laws in Florida need changing?
do parents in Florida have the right - if thier kid is at school - to NOT medicate their child if they choose not to? Or will the division of family services threaten or take a child if a parent does not?  If this is not the kid of topic you are asking about - I am sorry - I don't wish to create a tangent.  I do think that our country seems to have gotten away from parents/and private citizens having icertain rights  parents tend to get threatened or bullied into certain courses of treatment, in my very small experience.

Or you can ask a more specific question.. I am in NJ

We have new law, http://www.patriciaebauer.com/2008/04/24...ance-bill/

Steven Geller Bill. However this law will need attention for it to really take effect. There's a proposed time limit (to year 2010) for insurance companies to add 40,000 dollars worth of coverage for autism related therapies. It ain't gonna happen unless the insurance companies are pressured. Point-blank as I see it.

Also my personal deal is that I need the feds to understand us too. Here I am not on any SSI/SSDI and I have followed my psychologist's advice in applying. I had the 3 denials, now I am awaiting court date with a judge. Hey I do all I can with 24/7 care of mom in wheelchair, 2 courses per semester at college in computer sciences, my freelance graphic design customers. In real life I am poor conveyor of words but I can type here, slowly.

I need the feds to accept us.

I am wanting to go to Tallahassee to see what we have and what we don't have. I understand that Connecticut has better conditions. I understand that the issues surrounding children is the focus. I am old man 57 with autism. So some organizers want to use me as a spokesman. Example, guinea-pig what-have-you.

Your questions are top of the list as far as all the focus on children with AS. This is what I am gonna be asked soon, too. I am autism old man. 57.

A female lawyer in Charleston, SC recently had similar bill passed that would guarantee those who work for large employers only would get about 40K in services (thru their health insurance) for each child dxed with autism. The kicker is the money stops at age 18 I think.

I have an old video of her and some others (including a friend of mine) talking to a local news channel about raising autistic kids and she might have mentioned it in that video, I forget.

Anyway, I would contact the SC Autism Society in Columbia, SC for the details.

Here's about Connecticut's Jodi Rell, the governor there. If you keep googling about this Connecticut bill and autism related info regarding Connecticut, you will be proud that at least we have Connecticut. Now .... many places have to "pull up their sleeves" to try to be like Connecticut. Naturally there's way more that can be done, I'm sure of that too. The politics is all new to me. I am a newbie to even thinking in that regard. As a newbie, the horizon is not even visible to me. So I have optimism and I have my own fights too, locally. My court date is still unannounced.

The CEO of The Star Center for Autism, a private school that has pupils residing there onsite has been speaking to me. Sometime he wants me to speak at a meeting. I hope I can live up to anyone's expectations.

The focus is to help the children. If I can assist and if I can get some help too, life would improve for me too.

Yay CT.  I like this governor.  Our old one really sucked balls.
Heeeeeey...I'M from Florida, too!

Florida is a tough place for me. I'm in Brevard and it's hard to find freelance gigs for my graphic design business. Also it's difficult to fit in here because:
(1) I am not a huge redneck who drives a tractor
(2) I am not a millionaire
!3) I am 57 years old, way too young acting and feeling for oldies set plus under suspicion by younger people.

Here I am sole caregiver for my mom in a wheelchair, she is 85. Nice big plus factor is my nice girlfriend who is 42 and young acting too.

Other than that, I like florida but I never had the opportunity yet to get a kayak and enjoy the socalled fun in the sun and all that, yet. Soon I will, I hope.

I came from Cleveland.
