...then what the hell is the point of having an association if it can't even help anyone?
NAAR UK  == autism speaks, they were merged with autism speaks a while back. The point is each member of autism speaks (meaning each director/trustee) is only liable for a total of £1 each. What this means of course is that they stand to lose only £1 each personally if they ever get sued for anything large.
grrrrrrrrrr....
Note that creditors always come first too if they ever get shutdown, so any lawsuit large enough would likely end up with nothing, as all the creditors would dive in first.
