Hello!

I'm 18 years old and I was recently watching all 3 seasons of House, when I came across the episode "Lines in the Sand." This is what sparked my interest in AS.

Throughout my childhood, I was always that geeky kid... teachers pet, taking extreme interest in things that I find exciting. I have an IQ of around 130, and taught myself to read around 2 or 3 using my own method.

My special interest for the past ten years has been espionage, so, I have seemingly mastered the art of body language... however, I feel like when I interact with people that I always have an extra step to go through. I feel like I apply some sort of mathematical formula to emotions and the like to come to a conclusion that fits the conditions.

I'm a Senior in High School with 23 college credits (mostly in English). Most of my High School grades are D's or 0's because I don't like to show up (there's no reason to). I feel very violated when i'm told that I have to do something simply because a GROUP says so. Silly NTs think they're right because they can be illogical and ignorant! Tongue

Whenever I get stressed I get really depressed, anxious and the insomnia gets really bad. I start smoking, and doing other self-destructive things that I CHOOSE to do based on LOGICAL thought. After all, endorphines do relieve pain, and sometimes it does get that bad.

I've noticed that certain things like Yerba Mate and L-Theanine (both natural remedies) work a hell of a lot better than Zoloft.

I figured I'd ask if y'all think I'm an Aspie... my step-mom thinks I'm not because she works with severe cases at an institute and doesn't see the whole spectrum.

Memories:
1) Telling my Grandma (matter of factly) to take two trips when doing the trash... after all, she's the one who wanted it away!
2) Drawing all of the walls with chapstick. Big Grin (REALLY FUN!)
3) Constantly focussed on something that wasn't people (untill the whole espionage thing came along... then my dad actually sent me to study at Cambridge University, UK for 28-days. Be jealous! Smile)
4) Breaking down whenever what I 'KNOW' is true or right is put into deadlock. Emotional blackmail is a killer. Sad...
5) My step-mom and father always said I lacked empathy and reciprcoity. It's not that I don't understand... it's just that emotion only really matters when it has a function.
6) I always talk in monotone and always had to be told when to smile.

There's a lot of other stuff too, but I'm just really hoping to see what everybody thinks, soooo, responses would be great!

Thanks! ^_^
130, God.

That's proof I haven't got AS.

Why? What do you think you have?
Aspies are considered to be of normal to very high intelligence.
Simon Baron-Cohen says that the difference between HFA and Asperger's is that there was no delay in language, not that there is a difference in intelligence.

Welcome - accept yourself as you are, and perhaps dwell on the idea of aspergers for awhile.
You know yourself best - we cannot make jugdments based on your short post.
High IQ doesn't mean aspergers, just means high IQ (I believe).
For myself, I think my IQ would be low - takes me awhile to think things through.

Indeed--just because you have Asperger's doesn't mean you're a member of an elite intellectual club, automatically.

It can even mean the opposite--personally I have significant learning problems and I was worse academically than the average NT!!
