How fast do you process data? Would you say you think faster than most NTs of your intelligence or would you say you think slower? How does your processing speed compare with your IQ?
I think that pretty much sums up the way I think
Basically, I have the impression that Aspies tend to think a lot faster than NTs but also a lot more chaotic. The speed may be the result of training, as we lack many of the social instincts NTs have and we need to match those instincts by analysis (which requires a lot more brainpower). The chaos is probably caused by that same lack of social instinct : we don't filter away many things NTs automatically filter away, leaving open a lot more thinking patterns.
With this poll, I wanted to verify how other Aspies experience their own thought processing. The question was how fast you (according to either tests or in your own experience) think in comparison with your intelligence. The latter is relevant, since more intelligent people tend to think faster than less intelligent people.
Sorry, I meant to hit the preview post button. That is me, above, I get distracted so easily. I am "NT" myself, supposedly, but I am always thinking about a lot of different things at once. I always put it to the fact that I am a Gemini!
My husband and I have a pretty good banter about it. I start talking halfway in the middle of my thought as I was so distracted I started the sentence in my head first. He looks like he is paying attention, I get finished with the whole story, and he looks at me and says, what, I am sorry, the TV was on...
LOL!

Totally shallow here

Somehow, I doubt that.
Actually, to be honest, I prefer to keep most of my personal thinking light. I work so hard all day on these super complicated matters, all I want when I get home is "Top Chef" and ice cream, seeing my baby (daughter) and my baby (husband) and my two evil cats.

Maybe... however I wouldn't say that fast thinkers are necessarilly shallow thinkers. One can think both fast and deep, you know...
I actually messed up at college/university myself. If I hadn't, I would have been a civil engineer rather than an IT consultant. Again, I'm not implying that I'm superior to anyone else. I'm just trying to figure out how I fit into the whole Aspie scene.
I am in the 100th percentile for processing speed and performance IQ, but only around the 91st or 93rd (I don't remember) percentile for verbal IQ. That's 126 in points.
I think a fast processing speed is important for Aspies, because we think very chaotic. Such a chaotic thinking pattern can lead to very long "waiting times", unless it is compensated by a fast processing speed... and these "waiting times" can be very annoying in daily life.
I think that's a common problem for all of us. Knowing how to do something in theory is one thing. Doing it in practice is something completely different, though....

Well, considering that a percentile score measures how much of the population you are better than, that means you're cleverer than every single person on the planet. Including yourself.
So did you mean 99th?
