I’m currently a sixth form student but by September I might be at college. I also got an interview by Wednesday on 7th May. But the biggest problem is I’m facing criticism from the teachers and the connexions worker at school, who helps out students to go to college or get a job after school. I’m especially facing problems by the head of the learning support section of school as she is trying to take control of my situation (because I was a pupil in her tutor group, she has the idea that I’m the boss of me).

First I faced criticism for not organising my future properly when I was in year 10 and 11. Then when I planned on college courses I faced criticism because they thought I couldn’t handle practical courses. Then when I applied for administrative based courses (Retail and Travel/Tourism) due to the fact I’m good at organising and structuring, but the teachers wanted me to change my choices as they say that ‘these courses don’t match up to my abilities’. I’m getting sick of these teachers trying to stop me from going to college, are they expecting me to be unemployed after school and take up more education until I’m dead in my grave!
maybe get them to explain how they think your abilities do not match up with what the courses require.
Well first of all, don't worry about it if you're not totally sorted for Sept. Most colleges accept direct applications right up til Aug, and its not like you have to apply through UCAS.

Do what you feel is right for you. I went through 2 years of Sociology & Law, and whilst I found the subject matter fascinating, I couldn't handle the networking that would be involved career wise. Hence the transfer to Computer Science/Software Engineering. Think in terms of your career too.
Only be concerned if they actually try and change your choices in college. Might be an idea to warn the college that they might try and do that. They'd be stupid to of course.

They can flap their lips all they want. YOU know what YOU are capable of and what YOU want to do. So go ahead and do it! Flip the bird at them if you feel so inclined!
Thanks the support everyone, I just want to take more control of my life without these teachers trying to. Anyway, can someone tell me why Timelord is banned?
Because of his behaviour toward Viewtiful-Chris I believe...
Is he banned for a while or forever?
Only Time will tell... Tongue
I think and hope for only a little bit - equal treatment and all that.
I enjoy many of timelords postings. I for one am interested in the perspective he gives.
O god don't get me started... I was supposed to skip 3rd grade but wasn't allowed to ONLY because of my bad handwriting. People think its funny that my teachers were this dumb in the first place. then I had to transfer schools because all the 3rd grade teachers at that school Refused to teach me because of my behavior. I've gotted 50+ detentions over the course of me academic career for being Disrespectful and "talking back" whatever that means. they always got mad at me and asked me why i wouldn't do my homework i always said cuz i already knew all the stuff and i was bored. I once got yelled at because a teacher told me to read between the lines and i asked her where the lines were.

F*CK the Education system they're full of sh*t

I also got yelled at by teachers for not looking them in the eyes when they were talking to me.

I think I've been lucky here--I've had more good teacher than bad ones, and several really great teachers (I heard one of them once let a kid disassemble and reassemble half the chairs in the room because he could only learn complicating things while he was doing something.)

Education systems can be awfully stupid as well. One of my friends was forced to repeat grade 9 math because he took it in grade seven (or was it six?) and they thought it would cause problems for him to be that far ahead. The only outcome of that was that the teacher couldn't give bonus questions at all in his second round, because that would have bumped him over 100%. I think they took his mark down a point at the end, too, because it's not supposed to be possible to get 100% overall.

I've already posted my DARK story, but I'll put it here again because Rein hasn't heard it. When I was in kindergarten I was given a worksheet and told to colour the things that stated with 'd.' I decided this was stupid so I scribbled black over the whole thing and handed it in, saying 'D is for DARK and I'm DONE." They made me do it again. I cried (well I was 5 at the time.)

My handwriting was also terrible. My printing was ok, but of course they demanded handwriting so I ended up having to type everything, which took forever when I was little.
The private school I left was more advanced than the public school. So I needed to skip a grade. But school policy was that nobody skips grades. I had to sit through the same material for another year of my life and the teacher complained to my parents that I wasn't paying attention.

My point is, some schools try to make everyone to fit into conforming boxes of mediocrity. Some seek to inspire to greatness. There are crummy teachers and wonderful ones. In the end, most of us can recall at least one great teacher who influenced our life for the better.

At that age, I was convinced I knew more than I did on many topics, including life and my future. I wish I had not made some foolish mistakes with my education due to my mindset of rebellion. Youth is like that. On the other hand, some of the staff should not have been so hostile and unapproachable, marching in lockstep.

My advice is, consider it as a game. The point of the game is to extract the best possible education and opportunities you can from the situation, so that you will benefit. Don't get distracted by the urge to fight and rebel. Rather, try to keep an open mind to examine the advice everyone offers... like you would with a finance advisor. Do your own research on the job market and college requirments. Try your hand at desired skills. Talk with trusted relatives who have been in the workforce. Make the best decision you can. Then try to suck from the school whatever assets (education) offered for your enrichment. Its far cheaper to get it now than it will be to get it later.
Well, I knew there was a thread somewhere abotu stupid teachers - no need to reply to my venting here - just in case anyone has paid attnetion to the saga that is figuring out how to best get my sons school and teachers to properly supervise and at the same time let him alone...
Today (and all week) he has NJASK testing - standardized testing all week - korrigan had a thread on testing etc., - anyway, my aspie 11 year old perseverates on "bullying" and "bullies" and the school cannot seem to figure out how to keep one kid (who has tourrettes but its medicated apparently, it turns out ) from cursing at or otherwise targeting our kid - it seems this kid is a bully and trains others to follow him This is only at lunch - well I thought we had fixed this as of about 2 weeks ago - duh, changes in lunch table - boy are they slow

wow, rabling on.
The point is - the school makes a big point of taking my son out of his regular classes and putting him in smaller groups for testing - cuz his IEP calls for it "if needed". I told them that is not necesary he does fine with standardized testing as everyone is quiet.. anyway they say no this will be better. I find out that yesterday my son comes home and says, you'll never guess who I had to sit next to ALL day while taking my NJASK... well yup you guessed it. (meanwhile my ds has an aide with him - what for? to supervise him- make sure he is not bullied (mainly) she somehow does not think to move him - no foresight. big duh! Now today, ds's aide was absent, so he had a substitute aide, today ds says something - hey, can I be moved away form him - she says no, he deals for a while, then asks agian and she says to him "don't be stupid, just becasue someone is making noises or you don't feel comfortable next top him is no reason to ber moved" some variation of that.. with the word stupid and "just becasue you're not comfortable" What the? he stood his ground and the sub went to a higher power, and his seat got moved - but come on - the silliness if me even posting this is nuts I know - but, boy stupid no? (and by that I don't mean my son) teachers....
yes, this is a little nothing story - but it goes to the point where all these little things can affect my kid.
Oh yeah... teachers can be So Dumb.
Seriously..... So Stupid.... especially the laerning support ones... Oh MAN. And the psychologists....the worst. I know a lot of psycology students that work at am autie weekend club... i gotta put a notice of somthing...
One of the students... i explained a totally obvious theory about copying parental behaviours... next i try to write some music... thats all it takes for me to then overhear her saying i'm a genius... Ahh, psychologists these days....
