It is so cute! Gerbils are not legal here. We can have hamsters, rats or mice.

Yes, it is illegal to purchase, import, own or breed them in California. Weird, Huh?
Apparently it is because they will thrive if they escape and there will be mad packs of gerbils loose everywhere.
At least, these were the only species we were allowed to sell when I worked at a pet store.
You still have a lot of knowledge from your pet store time. I managed one for around 3 years, and I think most of the knowledge has now been replaced with legal knowledge from my career for the last 11 years. There is only so much room in my brain...LOL!
I used to walk with my 5-6 foot Savannah Monitor on a harness. People were very scared. I would have hated to run into a small dog or any other type of small animal with her on her leash. It would have been brutal. She was very sweet with me, but small and furry = DINNER!

I think you need to think very carefully about whether or not you should expose your baby gerbils to this thread. It could damage them for life!
