Autism Speaks has made a report about how much Autistics in the UK cost the government. This is to support their reason for getting rid of Autistics. However since they're run by nt's "who wouldn't know whether to use a intergral or diffentiate to find an area under a curve" they seem to have done their sums wrong in their report.

A UK Autistics costs 4.7 million per lifetime
It costs the UK 2.8 Billion a year
Total Autistics living in the UK= 540000

Which totals each Autistic to live for 906.4285714 years.
Woo, go us!

It is ridiculous that Autism Speaks gets away with this sort of behaviour. Although you have to hand it to the UK branch for hiding their true intentions so well compared to the US branch.

The UK branch say their research is into causes to improve the lives of Autistics (example they give is reducing allergies) whereas the US actively call it a disease and compare it to AIDS. Bloody hell. Its unfair they prey on parents looking to help their childrens lives to fund them, if I haden't known about Autism Speaks from here, I would of thought them to be good, the UK website is very convincing . I doubt many parents know what their money really is going towards (25% profits, otherwise known as salaries)

(Billion taken to mean an American billion, otherwise we don't live past infancy)
(Quote from The Big Bang Theory, episode 1)
oh, sweet, imma live to see Mars gain its independence from Earth =D
I get the impression that neurodiversity movement is getting more support from neurotypicals nowadays, so it would be nice if you didn't imply that neurotypicals have little potential in mathematics.

This leaves an impression:

Sorry, in my attempt to mock Autism Speaks I implied things I didn't mean.
"However since they're run by nt's "who wouldn't know whether to use a intergral or diffentiate to find an area under a curve" they seem to have done their sums wrong in their report."
The "who" should be on the outside of the quote to mean the nt's who can't do maths, not all nt's. Also note that I am dslyxic therefore I am likely to make more mistakes in the future.

I can't seem to find this report on their site.  Somebody with a basic knowledge of algebra probably tipped them off...

Thats odd, I just checked the link and it still works for me..hmm. By the way i'm female Smile

Heh! That's so funny. Too bad we don't really live that long, though. Maybe they would do genetic research to see how to make themselves more like us instead of to get rid of us!

(Joking - I don't actually want NTs to make themselves more like autistics.)
This makes me cross... not just the dodgy maths, but the general idea that a person's right to exist is inversely proportional to how much it "costs" to support them.

You could use that to argue that NOBODY should have ANY children ever at all, because they cost so much money and they're so much hard work, and it's going to be at least 20 years before you see any sort of return for your investment.

Unfortunately this concept of worth being tied to expense is quite common. In the United States for example, most health insurance programs will drop any customer whose lifetime expenses exceed $1,000,000. They will also immediately share that information with all other providers and they will simply refuse to insure you.

However in the UK it is much fairer, we have the NHS which gives free health care. Although it isn't perfect because there is a waiting list etc, compared to the health system in America it is great. It sounds upsurd to me that if you're "too ill" you have to pay for it yourself.

Reading the Weekend FT I find that Autism Speaks has infested that aswell. There is an interview with the wonderful, kind, Dame Stephanie Shirly. The leader of the UK branch of Autism Speaks. And she quotes this report on how much we cost to live while subbtley saying she hates Autistics.

"I wake up every morning with a clear mission: autism."

The aim of that article is advising the wealthy who read the FT to give millions to Autism Speaks. I am currently writting to the FT.
I think the reason the UK branch of Autism Speaks are playing it down is because people in the UK tend to be more cynical and contrary than those in the US. Many Americans will be moved by shock statistics, dramatic language and a few sob stories, where in Britain we're more likely to get annoyed, scoff at the sob stories and then turn round and do the opposite.

It's a cultural thing. Where in the US, an adult crying because their child isn't perfect and using a lot of soppy language will likely provoke sympathy, in Britain they're likely to get branded as pathetic. Also Autism Speaks conflicts the NAS, who are the biggest Autism Organisation here, as well as most of the others. The lack of natural curebies, and our slightly greater tolerance for eccentricity, means that Autism Speaks won't recruit just like that, so it has to play it down for a while.
I'm not sure if this is good or bad. If they were doing the same as their US counterparts, they'd be rejected by most (probably), but if they are toning it own, then there's every chance people are going to get sucked in, and that's worrying.

Our NHS isn't perfect- the government, who are currently fond of Blanket Bans and a nanny state mentality regarding Health and Safety (needless to say, they aren't popular), and have considered making obese people and smokers pay for their own healthcare as smoking and obesity are apprently economoy drains. Of course, the thought that Smokers and Fat people also pay taxes went over their heads. I think that the US is more tolerant in that respect- I have never heard any stories about smokers or fat people being branded economy drains over there. I could be wrong. Am I?
Well, in the US, there is talk of insurers refusing to insure people who are fat or who smoke. Don't know if it's been implemented, but I know there's been talk of it. Also (at least in California) there have been ads put out trying to scare people thinking that even if they don't smoke, that if someone who lives a floor down from you smokes then it'll go through the floorboards and secondhand smoke will kill your kid. Really, just to the point of paranoia.

What I think is, if it's so horribly unhealthful for someone living in an apartment down from you to smoke, then why not campaign against car emissions? Because people don't want to give up their precious cars, especially in the suburbs. It's like there's this push for the government to patrol our health, but only to the point where it's convenient and doesn't annoy the lazy public or the lobbyists.
It costs a lot more if you're fat. They'll insure you--it'll just cost you an arm and a leg. There is a lot of prejudice against fat people in general; getting medical care without getting "you need to go on a diet" lectured at you is nearly impossible. Even if you already are on a diet, if your vital stats are great, and if you're more active than the average skinny person, you will be paying more for insurance simply because of your BMI.
The reason they put a weight limit on the NHS is because the risk of death was too high during surgery for the morbidly obese. Therefore they force them to go on a diet or pay for surgery themselves. Theres not much wrong weight limits in that sense for medical care.
Heh...excuse me but the last person to live REMOTELY that long was Methuselah  you know...that bible guy ...when he died... the flood came... that one... anyhow here's a link http://who2.com/ask/methuselah.html
By the way... I ran across that website while I was researching for an oral report I had on Autism last term.  It struck me as weird that the webpage would have such a title... I clicked on it and started browsing... one word... BILE.
