Hello.  I need help with uploading a webpage.  I am using ftp.  I downloaded Mozilla ftp.  Now, I need some help with procedures as to how to transfer my website on my computer to the domain I just bought.

If someone can give concrete advice that a non-techie can use, feel free to PM me, or post below.

All the best.
For some reason the word uplift made me think that the web page was bad and you needed help improving it

What's your hosting provider? The general procedure is to plug in the FTP url, and then enter your login before you can upload anything, but the specifics  require a little RTFM-ing
You need to connect using an FTP browser. Download FileZila, it's a great FTP client. You may have purchased your domain though you're going to need a hosting account. The hosting account points to your domain by 'nameservers'. After you purchase a hosting account you will be provided with 2 nameservers (Primary and Secondary e.g. ns1.bluehost.com and ns2.bluehost.com) which must be added to your domain for propagation. The hosting account will have FTP connect details which you must enter into the FTP client to upload your content. DNS propagation can take up to 48 hours meaning after you have set the nameservers, your site may not be viewable to everyone as a whole.
OK, so I downloaded Filezila.  I got that far.  I then went to the domain that I purchased.  I saw a bunch of weird categories...

I tried to publish my website through ftp.  It would not let me do it.  Weird, but true.  Talking to this website hosting company is like talking to a wall.

I thought I knew the mechanics of actually uploading a webpage.  I have the password and everything.

Can someone list it step by step, for the sake of the forum dummies out here?  You know, the Aspies who are probably "Densa" members.  This is an actual group for people who do not make "Mensa."  (=-::}

Sorry to bother you with this, but I am not as tech savvy as some of you appear to be.  Your help is highly appreciated.

All the best.
You need more than just a domain, you need a webhosting package too to point the domain at.
"Densa candidate" responds:

Please help me to understand "webhosting package."

Really, I am out of my league here...But I am trying my best to understand.

Basically, webhosting is space to store pages, and the domain is a way of directing people to these pages.

In other words, a domain is similar to a set of street directions - it's used to get people to where they need to go, but you'll still need to actually buy the house.

EvilZakkie explained the concept best there, here's more practical suggestions:

Google for "webhosting". You can probably get hosting with the same company you got the domain name with as well. Check their site or ask customer services there.
