This was on the news this evening so I've found this link. The investigation is in its very early stages so I'll post more links as it progresses.
This young man, who was reported on the TV news as being severely autistic and epileptic, went missing a few days ago with his mother. His mother was found hanged a couple of days ago and her son's body has now been found. They don't yet know how or when he died.
His mother's partner and another man have been arrested.
On the TV news the headmaster of the special school this young man had attended described him in very positive terms.

I knew he was severely disabled but I didn't realise he was autistic
does anyone else think this may be a hate crime?
if so I hope the people responsible are punished severely

It sounds less straightforward - given that his mother was found dead as well. It seems to be unclear whether she was also murdered or whether she committed suicide.

They mentioned on the BBC 6 o'clock news on Wednesday that he was severely autistic and also had epilepsy. It hasn't been mentioned again since, but I think that may be because the circumstances of the two deaths themselves are still being unravelled.
The young man's body has been reported as having been found in a suitcase in the garden of his home and was so badly decomposed that he was identified from dental records. The police are trying to find out when anyone last saw him. His mother seems to have asked that social services support be stopped a few months ago. At the moment the police are focussing on working out the time-line of the two deaths and how they each died.
Step-father and other young man arrested earlier in the week have been released without charge.
So they say nothing, then they say he is Autistic.
That cements my belief that classical Autism is bad, I mean..he was like as big as me and with the mind of an 18 month old? Good Gods.

How do you know he is autistic? The article didn't even say. It mentioned he had a mind of an 18 month old which is beyond mental retardation.

all i can say is this is so very sad. My heart goes out to all of them and I hope they do get to the bottom of what happened REGARDLESS of this chaps diagnosis .. in fact I cant quite believe that people are challenging what this guys diagnosis was in light of what has happened to him and his mother.. DOES IT EVEN MATTER?!!!! .... Maybe Im just too sensitive huh?!

all i can say is this is so very sad. It is terribly sad for all involved.
I started this thread because it is not unknown for autistic people to be murdered and for their killers to receive reduced sentences on the basis either that the autistic person's life wasn't considered to be worth living, or that having an autistic child somehow made it more understandable for a parent to kill that child.
The issue of the young man's autism isn't relevant at the moment, while the Police work out what exactly has happened, but it may be that his diagnosis and degree of disability become more relevant as the case proceeds.
