I've never heard of the thing they're on about anyhow.

Ethel

We're not?

(joke.  mostly.)
I sometimes see the neurodiversity movement as a more conservative response to radical groups like Autism Speaks and Defeat Autism Now!.

Ethel

The revolution will not be televised.

But it will be interactive!
why is the user name "aspieforfreedom"?  Are they trying to impersonate Gareth?
So Aspies for Freedom is new here?

This is getting confusing...
At least they're not together against autism.

Hello,

I am new here, but have been trying to combat the oppression of our nation for months now. In order to effectively combat this, i require data on the Together for Autism people. Are they for our benefit, or are they for our demise and oppression. I need to know this as soon as possible, i will try to find out on my end here, but any data you have would be greatly thanked for. Please Respond ASAP!

Maybe I am starting to understand the question now.

You are asking if the organization "Together for Autism" of Autism Ontario  is a curebie group or a pro neurodiversity group.  I am not sure.

Autism Ontario does fund research and supports ABA therapies.  "Together for Autism"  "is a province-wide campaign to raise public awareness about Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). It is also a fundraising campaign to support research in the field of Autism."

Why don't you just contact them and ask them for a list of the research projects they fund?

ABA= Applied Bevahior Analys which doesn't sound so bad does it?

its a escental perpose is this, teach poeples to act the oppisite of how there  naturally inclined to act so they fit with society. again not so bad.

the question is how they do this, and that veries.

A training philosophy that's used alot on autistic children, and has alot scepticism from the autistic community. As said it's alot about how and why it's done that are issues surrounding it - is it first of all meant to learn practical life skills by prompting and rewards, or is it to force an autistic kid to play like a neurotypical or else get slapped?

Note that I tried to be neutral to ABA in general, but mentioned issues as to how it is practiced, as it has many times been practiced in a way that I believe most of those having replied to this thread would see was clearly wrong by the look of it.

Have you seen that picture of one of Lovaas child patients - an autistic girl who screams because she's receiving electric shocks through the floor monitored by her therapist?
*monitored = administered

Ethel

Don't call him stupid just because you disagree with him, you snivelling little hypocrite.  You had a go at me for that on another thread, so keep your nose clean.  I have a long memory.

I think it's Aspie Friends you're thinking of, GuessWho?
"AspieForFreedom" - how old are you?

This is exactly what i was asking for. The Question was are they curbie or for our benefit. I could not have said it better myself. Although, what do ABA Therapies mean?

You have been given an opportunity to do some research yourself.  Ask questions about it here, look up on the internet, ask questions to people at Autism Ontario.  Maybe ask for a tour of their facilities and see how children there are treated.  You could go ahead and do some work for them if you want and try to find out about them.  If you decide that they are not really helping people with autism later, I wouldn't feel too guilty.  They are funded by the government and you could contact your MPP and tell them what you have discovered, if anything bad.
