Maybe sent Ingrid a postcard and ask her to invite you to her BBQ.
I like snakes somewhat.  I love the way the move.

I remember someone brought a snake to school when I was 11 yrs old.  All the other children were afraid to touch it but I did.  I remember it felt good and not slimey or rough like people thought it would.

Now the biggest joke that Peta is offering is a contest for $1 million for someone to develop fake chicken meat from "chicken stem cells" that tastes like the real thing  -- and will be judged by Peta.  That seems interesting but they require that the product be sold in 10 states and meet minimum sales of 2000 lbs in three months.  They also hold the right to discontinue the contest at anytime and all their legal lalala's I wouldn't trust.  They offer up no money up front such as a grant for the research or startup or production costs.  That is how most research is funded,  by grants.  Maybe they got their legal department so work but how many scientists work for them?????   But I am not so sure that a large quantity of stem cells can be produced and not require reseeding with fresh starter cells every so often.  Mutations occur over time and cell lines tend to die out after some time.

They are also asking people to donate their old fur coats to send to the homeless and people in Iraq and Afghanistan.
http://www.animalrights.net/archives/yea...00183.html
"The news report on the furs-to-Iraqis scheme said little about motives, other than to describe the Iraqis as "needy." But it is all equally revolting, whether it’s about PETA using the occupation to display goodly-hearted sentiments about the Iraqi people -- after sending some of the enemies of those same people over with boxes of sweets -- or whether it’s just about using Iraqis as their latest image of the "rock bottom." One of PETA’s slogans is "I’d rather be caught dead than wear fur." However we look at it, that doesn’t say much for PETA’s view of the people of Iraq."

And do homeless people really need to walk around with red paint on their coat?  "Look at me!  I am a homeless person!"

The more I find out, the more I would never give these people my money.
I have a fake fur coat (I wouldn't wear real) and I have still had people make rude remarks to me about it.  Maybe they need glasses.   What should I do or say to them?
Leather or suede coats actually are useless for the weather where I live:  they are not warm enough if it rains too hard and they can get soaked.  Don't get a vinyl coat because they don't breath and you end up really sweaty.  Goretex is the best but it is really really expensive.

I have a "ski" jacket that I wear most of the time that has a zipout fleece liner.  I have the fake fur coat for getting dressed up.  My husband won't let me wear it out on my own because of these stupid people who comment on my coat.  It looks like this http://fabulousfurs.com/red-fox-portrait.../cn/2002/.

I should carry some "did you know Peta is a cult?"  pamphlets in my handbag.  What I usually do is listen to their little rank and I always tell them that it is a fake.  I thank them for telling me their opinion.  Then I look at my watch and ask them if I can have 10 minutes of their time to explain my religious beliefs to them.  I have not have one person say yes.  I say "but I listened to you."  if they say "it's not the same" -- I tell them that it is.  Usually they just walk away.  Too bad these people don't want to get saved.

Despite having been schooled in a convent and having a mother who worked with Mother Theresa's missions in India, Ingrid Newkirk, CEO and cofounder of PETA says she is an atheist.  She might very well met up with a BBQ after she dies, in Hell.

Meh, PETA wants to do good, but they just don't realize some fundamental things.

As I recall, someone associated with an animal rights group made comments about the deaths of some seal hunters, and placed the value of the seals, non-endangered animals, over the lives of those people.

I wish that guy would meet the families of those who died. He might not be so quick to place such a low value on human life.

Watch the video posted earlier in the thread.  I disagree.

What video are you referring to?

Slaughtering animals would not be a tolerable job for most people but neither is cleaning public washrooms or working a garbage dump or changing diapers of adults -- but some people do these jobs.

What is very offensive are the Holocaust on Your Plate ads by Peta.  They show victims of the Holocaust (victims of the Nazis):  piles of dead human bodies, naked and skeletal starving men, woman and children along with shots of animals in various "processing" stages.
What did these people do?  -- other than some of them were Jews?  How would you feel if you saw these ads and you had been in a Nazi concentration camp or people in your family died there?

Some of the reason that so many Jews were tortured and killed was because the Nazis dehumanized them.  If the aim of the ads is to "humanize" animals.   It does not work.  It only enrages people and rightfully so.  It disrespects these people's suffering.

If people are concerned about the seal fur trade, they can write to the appropriate government agency/representative -- not harass families or individuals.  Canadians do not want terrorism in their country.  People who plan, finance, encourage or perform acts of terror will be prosecuted.
as with the "Holocaust on your Plate" ad campaign -- Ingrid NewKirk is such a media whore that she thinks she can just apologize for these atrocities and work on the next offensive ad campaign.

Where the apology for the sexist ads?  I find the women with cow's udders offensive.  Women's breasts are designed to breastfeed their babies.  How is a mother breastfeeding her baby disgusting?  Cows udders are designed to feed their calves.  Human babies should not be given cow's milk anyway -- it can cause allergy problems.

All the celebrities hyped up as being vegetarians is just designed to attract young recruits for this cult.  It is "cool" to be vegetarian for some teens.  They can also be recruited to do terrorist acts by manipulative people who will try to convince them that they need to "atone" for their former animal consuming ways.  Are these kids so stupid that one day they suddenly realize that the meat they eat comes from animals -- how stupid are they?  I remember this kid in high school after we were learning about muscle tissue and cells in biology class was like "the meat of chicken legs is muscle like in a person's arm.  How gross?"  I said "so what?".  She decided not to eat meat for a while until she went to the doctor and she was told that she would have to eat certain foods to be healthy - she started eating meat again.

I would like to see some celebrities publically volunteering for some medical research.  Maybe that should be the new fad.  Where I live there are always ads asking for human participants in drug studies that pay $4000 for a weekend or test that runs a few weeks.  Mostly poor people do it.  These celebrities don't need the money.  They can do the tests and donate the money to some charity such as a children's hospital.  I donate blood.  Every time I can help three people.

I wonder... what do Peta supporters do if they get infected with head lice?

Actually head lice is a huge problem.  People don't want to use chemicals on their kids heads.  There must be some other or herbal treatments that work.

I don't have a problem with killing insects.

I don't think that most people who support animal rights like Peta care about insects (except bees apparently).

Supporters of peta are nothing like Jainists.

Jainist (religion) will wear masks to avoid accidently breathing in insects and will sweep the ground before they walk to avoid stepping on insects.  They refuse some types of antibiotics as well.  Jains run animal shelters all over India" They take nonviolent behaviour to an extreme.

"Jainism's stance on nonviolence goes far beyond vegetarianism. Jains refuse food obtained with unnecessary cruelty. Many practice a lifestyle similar to Veganism due to the violence of modern dairy farms, and others exclude root vegetables from their diets in order to preserve the lives of the plants from which they eat. Potatoes, garlic and onions in particular are avoided by Jains.  Many Jains abstain from eating green vegetables and root vegetables one day each week.

Nonviolence includes the concepts of vegetarianism. Jains are expected to be non-violent in thought, word, and deed, both toward humans and toward all other living beings, including their own selves. Jain monks and nuns walk barefoot and sweep the ground in front of them to avoid killing any insects or other tiny beings. Even though all life is considered sacred by the Jains, human life is deemed the highest form of life. For this reason, it is considered vital never to harm or upset any person.

"While performing holy deeds, Svetambara Jains wear cloths, muhapatti, over their mouths and noses to avoid saliva falling on texts or revered images. Some wear the muhapatti to avoid accidentally inhaling germs. Many healthy concepts are entwined within the Jain religion. For example, Jains do not drink unboiled water because it contains billions of micro-organisms."

I am sure no Jainist would take part in any terrorist or insulting noncompassionate behaviours that Peta suggests.  -such as harassing people who work in meat or research industries, harassing people who wear fur etc.

Fleas can move off the pet and live in the carpet and bite you for a while.

I wonder how expensive it is to have a dog.  I would like one but my husband does not since he would never walk it or pick up its poop.

It would cost for medical insurance, license, medications/vaccinations, food and other items such as leash, grooming  plus having to worry about someone caring for the dog if we went on vacation.
I don't like to kill spiders because they eat annoying flying insects.  I try to capture them and take them outside.

I think the stupidest protest some animal activists had (don't know if it was peta) was against bee keeping.   Don't they know that many farmers have to have bee hives moved in to pollinate certain crops such as fruit trees, sunflowers and strawberries to get a good yield?  Wild bee hives are often a danger to people and animals and if they are in the ground, they would be destroyed by machinery.

The emissions of livestock and the emissions of SUVs differ in one important way, however: the methane and CO2 produced by livestock is not introducing more carbon into the ecosystem, as burning fossil fuels is. Livestock metabolize nutrients from living plants; this is where the carbon-based gases they produce come from.

Combustion of fossil fuels, on the other hand, is reintroducing huge amounts of carbon back into ecosystems that has been "locked away" for many millions of years, carbon that would not have been reintroduced so rapidly if it weren't for humans. The net amount of usable carbon in the world increases, unlike with agriculturally-produced carbon gases.

Additionally, the emissions produced by livestock can be a renewable replacement for fossil fuels. Around here where organic farming is very popular, many cattle farms have waste collection ponds that are covered with tent-like structures. As the waste decays, it produces large amounts of methane gas. The tents collect this gas so it can be used to power the farm's machinery, creating a self-sustaining, carbon-neutral facility.

If we found a way to completely rid ourselves of livestock and the methane/CO2 they produce, but still used fossil fuels, we would still be fucked because we would still be increasing the net amount of accessible carbon in the world. Over all, carbon emissions from the combustion of fossil fuels are much more harmful than emissions from agriculture.

I don't have a problem with trying to be more environmentally conscious.

I do have a problem with some of PETA's actions:  the Holocaust of Your Plate ad is offensive.  They also encourage people to harass other people which can quickly end up with people breaking the law and violence.  It is fairly difficult to point out their abuses against people because their website seems to change daily.  They also show in one year's annual report that they gave money for legal costs of a convicted terrorist.  What do you call organizations that support terrorism?

What is the purpose of putting up the names and photos of CEO's of companies who they claim abuse animals?  If only to let people harass them.  I got a letter from them asking me to phone a government officials office and I checked the number.  It is actually a media secretary's phone line.

They use some subtle lies in their approach but I can see through them.  Their underlying objective is to let all animals roam free on the earth even if all humans perish because of it.  (total animal liberation).

There have been some very insightful viewpoints presented on this thread.  Thank you.
I had to post up this link.  http://www.petakillsanimals.com/   Peta is being investigated by the FBI for involvement with terrorist groups.  They could have their charitable status revoked.

I respect people who choose to eat meat or to become vegetarians or vegans.  It should be a choice.

People who commit acts of violence in the name of their ideology are terrorists.
I was shocked too.  I didn't think they were that bad when I first started researching.

It is very shocking that young people can be lead into doing vandalism and harassing people without really knowing that they are being brainwashed and turning into "terrorists".
