I'm just talking about people who post stupid pictures.

I'm one of them.

Sigh, whats the damn point.
I could comment on the situation in Iraq, Afghanistan but I won't bother.

Drafts don't really produce the best army unless the homeland is really threatened.  The best soldiers are people who want to be soldiers and are carefully screened to keep out the crazies.
A people (bear with me it's late) a people can only be content if they believe they are actively making a difference, if they believe they are the "good guys".

In this day and age too many people would tell the government to shove it up their ass if it tried to draft them.

It's some stupid video on you tube.

I would not have expected anything else.
But the Empire is good and just. Smile
I am not an American and my country is not at war with Iraq.

I do remember that during the Vietnam war, rich families could avoid the draft if their children were sent for higher education.  Poorer people were drafted more often.

yeah, poor people do enlist voluntarily because they view the military as a job.

Maybe the anger at soldiers getting killed should be directed at the people who are doing the killing and those who are supplying them with weapons.
Countries with mandatory

If Americans associated defending their own homeland with compulsory military service instead of exporting themselves into other countries conflicts -- they would have a positive view of conscription.

There is also a democratic process in their country that allows them to suggest changes to their government's laws and policies.  It is very easy to write, phone or email a government representative's office.  It is not just "we get to vote for president only every five years".  Protest marches are just mostly ineffective.  I often wonder how many people contacted their government offices about any of the issues that they protest about or even rant on about on the internet.  YOU GOT A DEMOCRACY ----USE IT!
And you know thats how it's going to happen ;]
I'll knit cosies for all the helmets.
Bah, the day I rebel against authority is the day Hel has a warm day.
