By the way Dogbrain - at no time did I insinuate or infer or say that you Violated someones rights - were you looking for someone to pick a fight with? I'll not bite (pardon the pun Dogbrain).

Oh and did I type (anyone) silly me an absolute, just because an extreme "wing" is out there doesn not mean that their thinking (left wing idiot stumping point) was approved or agreed in any way.

I believe that you misread or are misreading or are deliberately trying to "spin" what I said. (and read these words void of any emotion, as I have none to waste and these words -as were the others are written as statements) I expect nor will reply to any further banter.  Have a nice day!  You may have the last word on denial and delusion.

People get the government they deserve.
GuessWho, were you aware that some people may have been dumb enough to think that GWB, a republican, was going to institute a draft? I am seriously asking. Was there someone in the bush administration that said that if you elect GWB he promises you a tax cut and the draft?
If there was some small group or someone that has a blog that thinks like that actually, (are these the same sort of people that predicted the war would pay for itself?) why would I prevail myself to their incorrect opinion and give them my business and read their drivel?
Answering a question about the draft that had been posed at a forum with voters, Kerry said: "If George Bush were to be re-elected, given the way he has gone about this war and given his avoidance of responsibility in North Korea and Iran and other places, is it possible? I can't tell you."
Should there be a draft, I say yes.
Clowns to the Left of me, jokers to the Right, here I am ..stuck in the Middle with you!
Like Marcia said, though I am from the US, I think that a draft would do exactly that.  If more of the population was faced with even the prospect of their own paying the price - the population would stay more active and avail themselves more with what is going on with their government. Less war's of choice for sure!
Ian , I take your suggestion of not posting stuff to stir up members. I sure try NOt to.  This thread is titled a political discussion about the possible return of the draft -(some might want it to , others not)  isn't this topic sure to stir up some feelings?
O I C . I can't even figure how to post a picture!

This is exactly why there will never be a draft in the USA.  The governing political parties do NOT want an active and interested populace.  They want passive drones who say "I'm a Democrat." or "I'm a Republican." and then blindly support one party or the other, no matter what it does.

Exactly right --{ I seem to alwasy agree with you Dogbrain.  Where are you from? }They Do Not want that - that is one of the reasons an this experiment of indirect democracy will not be duplicated - no one would want it. (HARDY HAR HAR- "Bring democracy to Iraq" - when we don't even have it - Iraq is being set up with a parliament - more like the UK, from what I can tell, and the UK has is better than what we have)

Oops- meant to post using atypical - one in the same(ds does not want me to use his moniker honestjohn unless he is with me)
In this day and age too many people would tell the government to shove it up their *** if it tried to draft them.
I like IKE (do does my ds) "Beware the military industrial complex"

No Republic can long survive the extension of its military forces as occupiers in hostile lands.  Ultimately, it must either retire that occupation or become something other than a Republic in order to maintain that occupation.

Do you think the US, being so young in it's experiment with democracy, will become something other,  do you think it already has, and lastly, do you think that anyone will care to notice?

I am beginning to wonder if the Star Wars saga is a warning for America.

So this is how freedom dies, to a round of applause.

I got chills when that line ran in the movie.  Ds recognized the truth in it too, and he was only about 9 when he saw it.

Did anyone see the Colbert Report - the one with George Lucas on it - on Comedy Central? A green screen challenge with Colbert fighting off Darth W. vader and Cheny shooting a storm troupers helmet off with shot gun buckshot?! The best!
