The American Association of Retired Persons sent me a letter asking me to join AARP for

$12.50 for one year
$29.50 for 3 years
$39.95 for 5 years

And I will, in 12 years, for savings on travel/hotels/rental cars, health and health insurance/dental/long term care/home pharmacy/ credit card, insurance.  I really want the life insurance.  I am paying too much for the one or two thousand it takes to burn me up and put me in the ground.

but I am only 38 later this month.

You're not too young... My little sister got one a couple months ago and she's 18.

You're supposed to start getting these when you're 50.  And when I did, trust me, I thought I was too young, LOL.
