Actually, the research I've seen suggests that autism is inherent in the way the brain is wired, and cannot be "caught" (therefore it is not a "disease"). People who say that autism is part of them are right, because they have "autistically wired" brains. Therefore, there's no "cure" per se. What Lovaas ABA and other early intervention therapies are actually doing is teaching the brain to rewire itself, or maybe to bypass the "damaged" areas. But autism is not a dread disease that is being passed around at day care centers like the flu. You cannot become autistic by playing video games, or having sex with an aspie. (lol) Maybe if parents understood that autism is not a disease, but a genetic abnormality, they'd be less obsessed with "curing" their kids.
