One really wierd thing is, there has been a consistent theme running from dream to dream, since I was little, there is a girl who is often present, midlength dark hair, age about 14-15, never 'does' anything really during a dream, or plays a major part, just seems to be there, as if just popping through my dream-scape, like some funky lovecraftian traveller.
Never did figure that one out.
Had one this morning, where she was watching me get chased by a shitload of angry wasps, just...watching.
I only know the term from the latin.

It's your long-lost love from a past life... O_O
I'm a younger girl, but... I KEEP DREAMING ABOUT THRIFT STORES!! It's really weird, 'cause I almost never go to them.
Once I dreamed I was staring down the barrel of a gun, after I had discovered the phone didn't work at the place in WV I no longer live at.

And besides, I already found love in this life ^_^
Its plain wierd though, I have heard of reoccuring dreams, but never reoccuring dream characters, the oddest thing is, I've even met her mother.
I, too, have running themes, but not quite the same way you describe, e.g. no recurring characters. Instead, it's as if most of the dreams within a few weeks of each other are related, like I keep revisiting the same place or region of a dream world. Come to think of it, I rarely interact with dream characters if any are even present, though I may sense the presence of people. The dreams are mostly about places and surroundings (whatever my subconscious might devise). I have a sense of goings-on or intrigue, but exactly what remains a mystery. Or, there is a sense of emptiness or nothingness (e.g. driving on an empty street, noticing a strange-shaped building in the rear-view mirror, in a neighborhood that was once vibrant but is now vacant).
I usually keep a journal near the bed, but no doubt capture very little information as the details of the dreams fade away very quickly upon waking. That is, if I remember much at all. Sometimes, it is difficult to impossible to even start to describe them. Other times, I'll remember that I dreamed something, or had an approximate number of dreams, but remember nothing. (That's not even counting the ones I no doubt have but don't remember at all.)
Learned motor skills are fine, going to the bog, getting food, hitting the bong, but soon as I actually have to think about doing something, its as if the act of conscious thought resets progress made in getting to sleep, which isn't good, as I have to wait 4-6 hours after going to bed to actually get to sleep.

Far out! Perhaps someone from beyond is trying to communicate with you via your dreams.

Well they're not doing a very good job of it then ;p
Some nights I cannot sleep at all but I "daydream" (lights off!) and that seems to do the trick, too (I'm still able to do my work the next day).
