Go to http://www.cnn.com/larryking and vote on the cause of autism!
Up to 81% by the time I voted!

I notice Jenny McWhatsit features heavily - don't know if I'm feeling strong enough to see what she has to say...
She said bullshit on TV!
I saw some of her on LArry King- she seemed to be trying to talk in gerneralities.. vote was up to 83%.

but the question did say or contribute to, that is rather vague
She looked like a friggin 2 year old fighting - would not take turns in a debate fairly she was very controlling.
That theory is starting to annoy me, and that porn star's wrongheadedness and her being an airhead is spreading like a plague.

I hope they put that on YouTube; uncensored swearing on cable television makes me start cracking up. I don't know why, I guess it is because those assholes at the FCC try so hard to stop it (but occasionally they fail).

There was an episode of MythBusters recently where one of them says "***" audibly, and it made me laugh for like 10 minutes straight. Also, here is a video of a kid swearing on Jeopardy after answering a question incorrectly: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6CzEx7Z4QIk

I have it recorded... I'll see if i can oblige.

We have our work cut out for us!

Just listened to a "Morning Joe" video/interview with the Wrights who head up Autism Speaks and noted the following:

They got the New York Times to run a full page color ad for their group giving the incidence of autism ("odds your child will be a golf pro: 1/100,000, odds your child will be autistic: 1/150")

If your child isn't diagnosed before age 2 and intensive therapies started they are doomed and will never be mainstreamed in school. If it is caught early, 50% can be mainstreamed. Note: My daughter wasn't properly dxed til age 13 and she is doing just fine! She has been mainstreamed nearly her entire time in school, except for a six-month period in 5th-6th grade...

One thing they have done that is positive is convince several state legislatures to pass bills forcing healthcare companies to cover autism. They were recently successful in SC where I live. So let's give them that, folks.

They recently also persuaded NATO to designate April 1st (or was it the second?) World Autism Day or somesuch. So, unfortunately they've got both the New York Times and NATO in their pocket.

The Wrights estimate (as if autists are somehow damaged goods) that worldwide, some 35-45 million people are autistic.

They ended on a cheery note (I am being sarcastic) saying that autism bankrupts families monetarily and some 70-80% of couples divorce ultimately due to the pressures.

I am happy to report that as regards the last point "autism" hasn't "gotten" my family just yet- I have some money saved for retirement and my marriage is stronger than ever. We are also a happy family imo. I am perhaps proudest of that, actually.

Also listened to a brief interview with singer Toni Braxton and the TENOR of that interview was vastly different from the above. She ended the interview by saying in effect:

"It (autism) is not a bad thing, just a delay for your child."

God bless you Toni- think I'll buy one of your cds soon! Big Grin
I submit, that you may want to give "the voters" the benefit of the doubt.  I think that (being a person who studies human behavior, not professionally) that the reason "people" at large are voting Yes is because they think that with large numbers of people saying yes, in NT language it means give it more money - they do not associate giving money for something with a cure - come on, has anything ever been cured - by a not-for profit?! People are voting yes to tell the governement, and schools and insurance companies - to recongize the existence and prevalence... That "they"  will Vote to give more money to research , as Yes to an increase in understanding and new programs - (give the parents and adults with in the spectrum whatever they need) similar to voting yes on the ballot at the polls for more $ to go to open space.  The "people" the "masses" want to help... People are intrinsically good (told you I was an idealist) and it is best that you try to not be insulted by people who mean well....  (Don't yell at me- I am speaking what I think may be true)
I voted. But it stands at

Yes 83% - 7185
No 17% - 1522
Total Votes: 8707

It is wearisome getting smothered by the curbies.

This does mean that there are also still voting people for 'no'. So that's a good thing, right?

I take offense to that... I have AS, and my IQ score was found to be 99... at the age of 15, at least.  I don't know what my score would be now.

Indeed. There are no real scientific conclusions to draw from the outcome of the poll. However, it does bring more public attention to Autism. Sure, a large number of people will prbably find their way to Autism Speaks or other pro-cure organizations and groups, but some people may find their way to anti-cure sites, wrong planet, even AFF.

It's not the best way to bring public attention to Autism, but it could be worse.
