Greetings,
I just found out that a small record label out of New York is putting out a benefit CD the end of this month called Soul Music (Artists United For Autism Awareness). 50% of the proceeds are going to our bestest buddies at Autism Speaks. Joy.
I bring you this so that we can give these people some *real* autism awareness!
I told them I'm an autistic musician and offered to donate a track for the CD, just so I could get more information, and tell them what Autism Speaks is *really* all about. There's contact information, both online and snail mail; I encourage *everyone* here to write to these people and let them know that we'll be boycotting the CD, because they're donating to AS, and whatever else you can think of.
The CD itself - not unsurprisingly, all artists on the label's roster - looks like an unimpressive mix of has-beens and never-beens.
We might be able to derail this whole thing. As you can see in the press release, thay're looking for people to donate money to *promote* the album; if they think they'll be getting a lot of *negative* publicity by releasing it, they might drop the project altogether!
