I first got involved with the Autism rights movement after I realized the parallels between it and the Gay rights movement. Both Gay people and Autistic people face the same sort of cure movement trying to cleanse us of our "disease." Fortunately Autistics seem to be mostly free of the abject hatred face by Gay people.
Autistics do face prejudice as do many people with disabilities (deaf, wheelchair) even obese people. -Especially in employment opportunities. Many people here will relate their experiences of having faced prejudices with government agencies such as child protection and law enforcement.
Prejudice is really a form of hate. Not respecting someone and their rights is really the same as hating someone.
I didn't mean that you don't face prejudice, I meant that you don't face things like this (***link deleted - zakkie***).
Notice there is no more genetic research being done on "gayness" because gay pride has abolished that notion that "people want or need to be cured". There is only a small number of people seeking treatment for "gender confusion" or homosexually because of their religious beliefs.
Actually, there is quite a bit of research being done into the genetic cause of sexuality. I view this research as largely positive though as it shuts up the "homosexuality is an abomination and unnatural" crowd.
Homosexuality? It is not a disability. It a consequence of combined genetic and environmental factors. Note that in many primate communities it is common for a percentage of individuals to exhibit homosexual behaviours. It is considered evolutionary advantageous as it releases an adult to act as a 'tertiary' or 'auxiliary' parent. Useful if a community is struggling to survive: fewer children to feed and more adults to find sustenance. To me this is rather convincing. I don't understand as to why someone would willingly 'choose' to be a homosexual in most parts of the world, think of the hate. Biology clearly plays a role.
The difference here is that Autism is a condition that may nor may not inhibit an individual's development. Homosexuality is an issue entirely apart, and homophobia unique to those cultures influenced by Abrahamic religions. The Buddhists, Hindus, Ancient Greeks, Romans etc. were not or are not homophobic.
This ties into my thesis that the Abrahamic religions favour conformity over diversity, and that many of our prejudices and our tendency to create divisions are a consequence of this intellectual heritage.
Who is funding this research? But at least they don't have the stupid ads that autism squeaks and all run.
Most of the research funds come from general government grants or the University themselves. There isn't an Autism Speaks like organization for this sort of research. And once again, I view this research as positive.
Think it's mostly some american lunatics who use christianity as an excuse.
No. They firmly believe that Homosexuality is a choice and fervently deny that it is genetic. They're also often too stupid to even begin to understand genetics.
The Buddhists, Hindus, Ancient Greeks, Romans etc. were not or are not homophobic.
I have to disagree with you there about including Buddhists and Hindus among the non-homophobic crowd. Buddhism lists Homosexuality within the list of sexual misconduct and their is currently great tension among Hindus on the issue of Homosexuality.
This ties into my thesis that the Abrahamic religions favour conformity over diversity, and that many of our prejudices and our tendency to create divisions are a consequence of this intellectual heritage.
The Abrahamic faiths are certainly responsible for the vast majority of homophobia in the world today. The Old Testament has got to be by far one of the most despicable pieces of literature with that distasteful Leviticus book.
I think a prenatal test for being gay is less of a threat because it doesn't have as much of the stigma as autism.
Depends entirely on the company you keep. surely?
If your God is infinitely good and wise then why is he so anti-progressive?

I think a prenatal test for being gay is less of a threat because it doesn't have as much of the stigma as autism.
Perhaps it doesn't in Norway, but in America there is a huge stigma attached with being Gay in many areas of America, especially the Bible Belt in the South.
If I was gay, I would think it unfair of God to have removed my appreciation for women, substituted an appreciation for men, and told me I could not have it.
I would feel like a black person not welcome on the love boat, the love boat being for whites (straights) only.
I would be mad at God in far deeper ways than I am by having Asperger.
Being Gay is not why I don't believe in a god. I don't believe in a god because I require verifiable evidence. I'm also not angry about being Gay, in fact, I quite like being Gay. I am attracted to other men and I have no interest in women.
Also, I think you have a major misconception that Gay people do not fall in love. We do. I in no way feel incapable of being in love with another man. In fact, I could only fall in love with another man.
Gott ist tot. Society has come beyond him. If even Christians are willing to accept homosexuals, willing to disregard much of the theology, then it is increasingly true that theism is untenable. Modernity and society are moving too swiftly.
As a virgin I think sex in general is the least bit wierd, even the traditional kind. I think a lot of heterosexuals who would tolerate homosexuality would consider it wierd, though, too.
What's so weird about gay sex?
And something else for a female virgin to consider, what's appealing about having a part of her anatomy torn open (gently I hope) with blood running?
Be gentle, indeed!
That's why many women don't enjoy their first sexual experience. It's rather unfortunate, but easily preventable. All one has to do is either wait for the hymen to disappear on its own, or slowly break it off before having sex. Too many people neglect to prepare for sexual intercourse properly and then don't enjoy it. Quite sad really.
I could not deal with a dictator inside of my head. That is why I am an atheist. Just let people do as they please. Sleep with who they want. Two consenting adults? Maybe four or five? No harm done.
Of course it reads like that. It was extensively edited and rewritten by Roman scholars. The Bible is not the Word of God. I'm sorry, but it's just not. History and evidence suggest otherwise. Not to mention the philological questions regarding translation and linguistic frameworks. Just compare the Greek and Roman Bibles.
