WELCOME!
I am afraid that I do not know what a test for such a young child would involve. I hope someone else here might know. Which country are you in, to help people to answer?
Hi everyone. I am new here.. and to all of this really. My 2 year old daughter is showing "red flags" for autism and we are taking her for her "test" on April 1. Can anyone tell me how this is done, what will happen during the test? I do appreciate it.
You insult autistics and then go and ask them for advice.
I must be missing something here.
USA is where I am from, thanks to the nice and educated responders. Others need not try to bait me into an argument, we all have our own opinions. I happen to think insulting someone for trying to bring awareness to Autism is ignorant.
Nobody here is knocking awareness. We all happen to think that it is highly important. What upsets us is when people regard us as sub-human unless we can be turned into clones of them by some magical 'cure'.
You are all terrible. You sound like a bunch of jealous fat bitches. Why not use her celebrity to make more people aware of Autism... any help I can get is appreciated. Do you think anyone would want to buy a magazine with your hatefull asses on the cover?? No. Grow up, concentrate on the cure, not ripping apart those who are.
yeah pakrat, you didnt see this.
yeah, jpcmich, the first thing you posted was an attack on the very things that we believe in.
so excuse me for being a little bit xenophobic, but there you go.
AND AGAIN, HOW IS THIS KNOCKING OR INSULTING AUTISM? YOU ARE A FOOL, I AM DONE WITH YOU AND YOUR IGNORANT BULL. AWARENESS IS A GREAT THING, YOU CAN MAKE FUN OF JENNY ALL YOU WANT, SHE IS DOING MORE THAN YOU ARE TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
incorrect.
she suppports a cure, and believes in the "indigo children" theory.
she shoots her mouth off without thinking, and what she raises awareness for is the whole debachery of "curing" autism, which anyone with an iota of knowledge would know is impossible; it is genetic.

You don't seem to be quite the sharpest tool in the shed, so I'll copy and paste a bit of text from the AFF frontpage (just in case you missed the rather large "Welcome to Aspies for Freedom" section).
"We know that autism is not a disease, and we oppose any attempts to "cure" someone of an autism spectrum condition, or any attempts to make them 'normal' against their will. We are part of building the autism culture. We aim to strengthen autism rights, oppose all forms of discrimination against aspies and auties, and work to bring the community together both online and offline."
"WE" Not all of us believe in what you do. And "cure" can be a lot of things, like the fact many people not aware of autism need to be aware... "cured" from their belief that Autistic people are not "normal" or "okay"
most of the 8000 people here would agree with me; a cure is undesirable.
and uh, did you READ the first page?
here, let me quote it for you.
Aspies for Freedom began in June 2004. We have the view that aspergers and autism are not negative, and are not always a disability. This was a new concept to many people, but since we started the idea has spread further and now we are joined by many people who share the same positive view. It was called Aspies for freedom as the founders were all aspies, though the group is for anyone with autism, asperger's or any spectrum condition. We know that autism is not a disease, and we oppose any attempts to "cure" someone of an autism spectrum condition, or any attempts to make them 'normal' against their will. We are part of building the autism culture. We aim to strengthen autism rights, oppose all forms of discrimination against aspies and auties, and work to bring the community together both online and offline.
as a closing note here;
I shouldnt have attacked you in that way, and it was a kneejerk reaction.
shall we put this behind us, and try again?
"cure" can mean a lot of things, not to CURE someone with autism, but to cure those who aren't aware of it.
People are already aware of autism. I can't even watch one television show without being bombarded by that "1 in 150 children are kidnapped by autism" propaganda. Every time I drive somewhere I see cars with those "puzzling" Autism Speaks ribbon stickers on their bumpers. If it's a cure for lack of awareness you're after, then I'm afraid to say you're living about a decade or two behind the times.
jpcmich - please stop being so aggressive and angry towards us for a moment, and think about what it is you actually want from us.
It is just as if you have walked into a room of people and decided to take out your shock and anger on them - just because they have the same condition that you suspect your daughter has and aren't ashamed of the fact.
Well, we are just as human as you. We have feelings too. What do you regard as 'proper awareness for the younger generation'?
I have autistic relations from grantparents to grandchildren, the tragedy is that the wrong impression is being given of us by people pushing an agenda which excludes us.
jpcmich,
i hope people treat your child nicer than you are to us and that people don't call her "fat bitch" and "fool".
....in the future down the road I mean. You'll probably eventually wonder how people can be so cruel.
Definitely, demonizing autism is not going to make us less bullied in the schoolyard.
