I was on youtube and I found these videos. They are campaign films produced by the National Austic Society, a charity from the UK. Now I have mixed feelings about these films. One side of me think these films will help what people with severe Autism react to things, but the main character, Daniel, mean't to have Asperger Syndrome. I know these films would have some curebie tendencies and negative views of Autism, but I think you lot should watch these films. Also I would like to hear your opinions about those videos.

This is when there was a misunderstanding between the receptionists and Daniel.

Wait, sorry I couldn't get these videos enabled on AFF, so I send you links-ups.

I can't view YouTube vids on my browser nowadays for some reason, but from the short description of what happens in the video it sounds like he might illustrate some of the important daily issues aspies meet - that people could learn to understand better.
I don't remember seeing anything wrong with them. Though I wish more people acknowledged and understood communication / speech difficulties we often have. Though this is well-known about autistics, it seems that when they put "Aspergers" on it that people forget about those difficulties, perhaps because they may be more "under the surface" for people who speak. I imagine that people who acquired speech at atypical rates but who now speak but with difficulty, encounter this same thing as well.
Yeah, I agree the films represent aspects of Autism well, but Aspergers? I mean Daniel in the films have the characteristics of some with HFA probably.

There really isn't much of a difference. Kanner-type and Asperger-type autistics are more or less indistinguishable on the "weaker" end of the spectrum.

I thought the films were quite good and I used the one where he is travelling on the bus to explain to my friends and also my work colleagues, local MP and public transport companies how frightening the world is for me.

For those of you who can't use youtube, the videos were also on http://www.think-differently.org.uk/
I think the videos are very good, not perfect but a good atempt to explain to nts what its like to be Autistic. I have to take the bus a lot now because of the congestion charge in london (you have to pay £6 (around $12) to drive in certain parts of london). Before the congestion charge my parents would drive me to places i wanted to go but now i have to put up with noisy, smelly people. It can be a nightmare sometimes, especially when the bus is so crowded that i am crushed against people, people that like to shout for no valid reason.

On another note i thought it was interesting the comment someone left on one of the videos wondering if the video was supposed to be about a drug experience. I am curious to know if the experience that people have while on drugs is similar to the experiences Autistics have normally.
