I flicked across the tv channels just after 3am in Sweden and saw that CNN will launch a special series on Autism, starting march 31, in connection to the world autism day. I caught just a few seconds of the trailer but they mentioned that they would address 'the myths'. The footage showed a few kids.
Hmmmm - I wonder who's behind it? If it's Sonjay Gupta we should be OK.
I googled CNN autism the myths. It brought up Dr Gupta's blog.It has a place that we can tell our autism story. They will cover as many misconceptions of autism.I hope they do some stories on the positive side.
And not only kids.
Wow, thats great. I'll have to watch that.
See 'CNN Pressroom' for further information. Anyone can share personal experiences at something called 'www iReport com' or 'www iReport com/tags/autism.

One special would include interviews with adults, but Amanda Baggs was the only one mentioned by name.
Yeah well they've got a lot of Amanda Baggs material archived anyway - she's been covered exclusively twice already. And regular CNN viewers would know that so the name would ring a bell and attract viewers (from both sides). That would be the reason for that.

I'll have to check if they're showing it in Australia as well if a get a chance.
Darn.  How did I miss that until today?  The video clip from it was much better than the garbage on Larry King.

Among myths they wanted to cover were.....
- Every autistic person has savant abilities in some area such as Dustin Hoffman in Rain Man. Eg: math or memorization
- Thimerosal in vaccines is the main cause for autism.
- Autistic adults will never be able to live on their own. They will always need assisted living care.
