I don't get the connection...

Why should AFF do this?

If people want to do so as indidivuals, fair enough, but why should AFF as a website and forum do so?
On the one hand, I can see Ellen's point about getting publicity, and I agree that it is the moral thing to do (although your use of the word "communist" to describe the Olympics baffles me- 1) it is China, not the Olympics, that is communist, and 2) it is not directly related to the reasons to boycott the Olympics).

On the other hand, I can also see EnglishLulu's point, and I tentatively agree- this is not an issue that has to do with AFF's goal.  If individual members want to boycott, go ahead, but the organization as a whole should lend its weight only to issues directly related to its stated goals.
This sounds like terrorism.

I will take no part of this.

Where is the link to autism rights?
I honestly don't see the connection, nor am I up on the controversy over the olympics.
My guess - the connection would be to show solidarity and support towards another downtrodden group.
Then it isn't a connection
Is there not?

Do you not believe people who are neurodiverse- as a group - are oppressed within society?

I'm curious,
Please point out where the olympics is related to autism rights specifically. There's tons of groups that are oppressed for various reasons, but that doesn't make the issues of all those other minority groups something related to autism.
I wasn't supporting the idea promoted in the first post -- I was linking in a possible connection.

I believe it would be foolish to put such an ad. up - it would be laughable.
However if all groups of neurologically diverse people joined together as one group to make such a point - maybe then there could be something to gain.

^ I think Lucie is trying to make a general point about solidarity between neurologically diverse groups. Smile

however, we have enough problems reaching concensus on simple things on this site alone, can you imagine trying to co-ordinate AFF,WP, I2, the Epileptic forums, the...no, its not really that possible.

Yeah - charity i.e. good work begins at home.

My idea was that it would be more up to governing bodies - or determinations within a group. So I am thinking Schizophrenia, Bipolar and other International Support Societies of all those who are neurologically diverse coming together as a community - to make a statement.

Pie in sky - I know. But probably quite a good long term goal towards raising awareness and counter stigma.

Fair enough...
It's almost bedtime here...
I'm not quite with it...

You were trying to make a positve contribution though.Smile

It would advance and promote the idea that stigma is destructive.

Just a thought .... it's good to share ideas .... even if they aren't always good ones.
I say we start carpet bombing the little *** ;p

Well, with the exception of two people.
