Or is there someone more likely to win?
Interesting that he says something about federal dollars being "spent in a manner that prioritizes results". Surely much easier to demonstrate value for money in terms of practical support and awareness raising. This would apply to assistance in the classroom and the workplace.
The main problem seems to be that the "curebies" shout the loudest and get the most attention as a result, but I don't know if they would see Obama's stance as being unequivocally supportive of what they want, either.

This is what's wrong with politics today. Did you even LOOK at Hillary's positions before posting this? She's a pro-cure crusader! Obama's positions are not perfect, but they're better than hers, with a stronger emphasis on supports than on cure research. Also, there's some evidence he'd react favorably to a campaign to promote neurodiversity, if he were elected.
I dislike all of the candidates, but I support Obama because I dislike him the least.
Take out the bit about research into the cause and you've got a pretty good policy.
I wish we'd had universal screening for children. My 9 year old son could have been picked up when he was about 18 months.
He started 2 days/week daycare at 16 months and within 1 week they were discussing his unusual behaviour.
I won't tell you the long, sorry saga of seeking help (dr told me his behaviour was because I was depressed .... only 1 step away from Regrigerator Mother theory .... school not telling me their suspcisions because there are 2 lawsuits against them from 'outraged' parents who the school suggested their child might have Asperger's etc)
Anyway I'm getting off topic.
I'm Australian. We were incredibly lucky to have a former Deputy Prime Minister who has Asperger's (though he didn't know it when he was in power).
He left politics to spend more time with his family when his son was diagnosed with Autism. In learning more about Autism, Tim Fischer (former Deputy Prime Minister) discovered he was Aspie. His particular obsession is trains.
Australia had a good initiative announced last year in the lead up to our election.
Autism Announcement
We need more 'Aspies' in power.
Hmm .......... Gareth Elison for President! Or Alex Plank for President!
Helen
for people with ASD" ... yea this all seems very cruel. come on, there is nothing wrong with what is stated in this policy.
we shouldnt be worrying about barack obama, who seems to be a major advocate for everything 'diversity' related. i agree with Luai..
":Vote for Hillary then."
if you want, although it would be pretty bizarre to choose a president based on this pdf.

no...
Support Universal Screening: While roughly 90 percent of infants in the United States are currently screened
for various potentially disabling or life-threatening conditions, fewer than half the states screen all infants for
the full recommended panel of 29 disorders. Many of these conditions, if caught early, can be treated before
they result in permanent impairments or even death. Barack Obama believes we should screen all infants, and
also that we must set a national goal to provide re-screening for all two-year-olds, the age at which some
conditions, including ASD, begin to appear. These screenings will be safe and secure, and available for every
American that wants them. Part of Obama's early childhood intervention plan will be directed at coordinating
fragmented community programs to help provide all children access to screening for disabilities as infants and
again as two-year olds. Achieving universal screening is essential so that disabilities can be identified early
enough for those children and families to get the special supports and resources they need.
all In favour of political assasination say aye
I am only joking of course
I'm not seeing what is wrong with screening children.

As if I care what you think.
I like to see you still understand sarcasm, Luai.
Flar, all this actually means is getting doctors to look for signs of autism developing in young children so they can get them support early.

flardox,
Actually, I don't really see too much wrong with this; it looks like the emphasis is on *supporting* people with disabilites, rather than the fallacy of 'curing' conditions that might not be curable...

Sarcasm rarely comes across well in writing. Sorry, Ian, I couldn't tell.
