So what do you guys think are the underlying social issues that cause the Chavs to be the way they are?
Inbreeding.
Also, the kids are damaged before they are born when the parents consume large amounts of alcohol and nicotine. Then they are further damaged by being exposed to cigarette smoke and bad speech.
I looked at Chavs on Wikipedia and I thought, gosh, that's Vanilla Ice!

Yes, I have noticed the exponentional growth of storage facilities here in the past 5-10 years or so. I don't think there is anything wrong per se with questioning the rat race or the daily grind. The world would be a much better place if we weren't all so hung up on endless acquisition of material goods and "upshifting".
Aspies as a rule don't seem quite so concerned about social status and earning lots of money - I don't think Chavs are simply people who decided to drop out of the rat race or can't get past the starting point. There seems an element of severe antisocial behaviour as well, and "chavism" or being an oik is in no way confined to lower socioeconomic classes.
If I were rich, I don't think I would change too much. I'd buy a basic car and get a few renovations done to the house and some good sound equipment but that would be about all. Flashing your wealth around is a sure way to get people jealous and likely to try and take you down a peg or two.
Even Australia is in trouble, as we very much follow what is happening in the USA. In fact, some people say we are in some ways an extra state of the USA, such is the cultural influence we get from there.
Depends where you go I suppose. I think the main troubles we have are connected to the towering amounts of personal debt. It wouldn't take much for many people to lose their homes and the workchoices legislation made jobs so much more precarious for hundreds of thousands of people.
We have also been inundated with cheap US shitecoms on the TV and that hasn't helped our culture one bit.

I download alot of aussie tv, it sucks also........aussie idol is really good tho
Yeah, in general, Aussie TV isn't the best either. Much of this is the result of reductions in funding to the ABC and SBS who produced very good documentaries. With our new labor government, we might get some more funding for the arts - we'll just have to see.
It seems to me that there has been a general downward trend in TV show standards for years and of course, this also applies to Aussie shows. I found that nearly all the Canadian shows we got were of a superior standard though eg. "You Can't Do That on Television" and "Wayne & Schuster".
Local soapies such as Neighbores and Droning away just won't go away even though they have well and truly played out just about all the plot variations they could have.
