The article also mentions predictions about nanobots being implanted into brains.

What are your thoughts?
hm. I wonder....

Project Cyborg showed that intergreting electronics into the nervous system works...we have Micromachines...

Call me when we get this Big Grin

I'd like to go onto the internet without having to use a computer, either...

And having friends talk to you behind your retinas would be sweet, too. XD

Heh.

I think you would like Ghost in the Shell (its where those images came from)

Sometimes good old aspie literalism plays some strange tricks - my first thought on reading this was "What else would we *** with?".

Then I realised what he meant... *grins*

Here's another thought.....nanobots used to replace the immune system....one gets it's wires crossed and tries to take over....bingo! a new form of lekemia (not spelt right I know but spelling isn't my strong point).

well...
there would be checks in place, and, if one bot got "its wires crossed" then the others would eliminate it....as it would become a "rogue element" and start causing damage.

Well, the idea is okay.

But I see a few problems that people would face with such things.

One of them being: EMPs. With the development of electronic magnetic pulse (EMP) weapons and such, I am sure that millions of dead nanobots in the body wouldn't be a good thing...

by the same dint, if anyone ever does deploy an EMP weapon, particularly in areas such as central London, then all the computers and electronic devices in the area are screwed anyway.

If we ever do get full prosthetics, the it wouldnt be a vast step to putting a Faraday cage in.
server rooms for sensitive data should be FC'ed anyway.

damnit Flar, I said that on the first page Tongue

world's first commercial BCI (Brain/Computer Interface) goes on sale end of this year (only to US customers at first, a friend has one on pre-order for me, $300 per headset) i'm rethinking that viewpoint.

Basically, it allows you to use your thoughts as computer input. Here's an article on it:

http://www.news.com.au/technology/story/...17,00.html

Also, just wanted to point out that the worlds first commercial BCI was out a few years ago - it was a TV remote control, only really available in Japan. It cost around $4,000, and it was pretty unreliable, by all accounts...

Gareth Wrote:
BCIs have been around for years, i'm more excited by the fact that we'll soon be able to buy a general-purpose BCI at an affordable price. I can't wait to start hacking up a neural interface for second life (something I planned to attempt using an EEG, but that would require saving up for a very high quality professional unit and the end result would likely not work unless I was sat in a quiet room and highly focused).

*grins* That would really change the game...

The one I've always wanted to have a go at is a little device that could play conversationally appropriate phrases or sections of songs on cue. The tricky bit would be shrinking it down enough to carry around, but I think it would be possible...
