They already came up with a primitive optical enhancement for the blind, although at the moment its still apparently blurry and pixelated, gimme a call when they come up with the predator-style vision-mode implants with night vision, EM, and thermal imaging Big Grin

I was reading about another one that sounded neat yesterday, google 'respirocytes', basically, synthetic red blood cells with orders of magnitude more oxygen capacity than the natural thing, apparently could allow one to hold their breath for up to 4 hours.

I want some ASAP.
Yeah lets *** with our bodies Tongue

Whoopee.
I once went to a restaurant which served breakfast at anytime.

I ordered french toast in the 17th century.
Yeah ***, at least my joke was witty.

Sometimes good old aspie literalism plays some strange tricks - my first thought on reading this was "What else would we *** with?".

Then I realised what he meant... *grins*

lol

EVILZAKKIE!!!! HOW RUDE OF YOU!!!!! Wink

(I would have made that joke given the oppurtunity)

anyways

it would be cool to have nanobots / robotic enhancements as long as it can't get rid of autism or bring in new diseases I welcome it!

I mean how cool would it be to look like this?

and imagine the agility!! Big Grin

Well in Johnny Mnemonic they have an implant which gets rid of Dyslexia, Autism/AS would be the same no doubt.

And as for that joke comment, get on msn so I can administer your punishment.

It'll give me more pleasure than it gives you, son.

Binaural beats - you have a computer, go and download audacity from sourceforge (http://audacity.sf.net)
Use the "Generate" menu and then tone
Generate 30 seconds at 440hz
Create a new channel
Generate 30 seconds at 460hz
Set one channel to left, the other to right
Hold down shift and click play with earphones in

Listen to the resulting sound when you want more focus (but use earphones - the effect doesn't work if you don't)

Various nootropics (ask a doctor first):

CES:
You CAN build your own at home or hack a TENS machine (this is what I do), but for safety reasons it's advisable to go for a commercial unit which costs around $150 on average. The effects help with relaxation and focus and depending on the unit can also offer higher-frequency stimulation to help wake up in the morning. If you think it's worth it save up.

Gareth, soon as I can afford it, I am definately investing in some piracetam, phosphatidylcholine, perhaps some centrophenoxine (sp) as well.

The ampakines now, they look REALLY interesting, but have you seen the prices quoted? I read 4k per kilo in one quote! I forget which compound though, its a project though I plan to do myself in the future, as soon as I have some glassware I'm getting sent when someone is done with it, I have been looking through a few synthetic patents for the ampakines actually, doing my own synth to cut down the price down to something comfortable, and of course, for the fun of it Smile

The ampakines are expensive because they require custom synthesis right now due to not having been approved for general use by the FDA yet. Last I heard they're still undergoing clinical trials and personally I wouldn't bother getting them early, especially not via amateur synthesis.

so Gareth, what is your view on Prosthetics, AI's and implants? (going with the Ghost in the Shell model)

I'm already a partial cyborg on some days, love my wearable computer and CES (Cranial Electrotherapy Stimulator). Personally i'd happily upgrade every  part of my body except the brain (which i'll only interface with, never replace - since replacing it would just end up killing me) so long as my external appearance still looks vaguely human. Get me a qualified surgeon who'd be willing to bypass the bioethics committee and i'd start implanting my retinal implant and onboard computer with inner ear transducer for audio output today.

Why would you want to look 'vaguely human'. It is my experience that if you don't look fully, completely human you get MORE prejudice than if you look like something else altogether.

Personally, I would prefer the body, silent flight capability and night-vision of a cyber-owl! Big Grin

Although anything which wasn't painful would be better than what I have now. It is a standard exchange in my house: Hubby, "Can I get you anything?" Me, "A new body, thanks!"

Don't worry Tigs, i'm sure Gareth can't look any stranger.

Gunmetal grey skin ;p like a Servitor outta Warhammer 40k Tongue
My skin is grey now too? Or is it just the light (hint - look at the background)
Admittedly I used to look cadaverous in some pictures Tongue of course i'm healthier nowerdays.
Hey, i'm a hacker - pale skin is an occupational hazard.
I see much promise in the ampakines, but don't want to take anything before clinical trials confirm safety and I can obtain them safely and legally from legit manufacturers. No offence, but I don't trust amateur synthesis.
Sorry about that, server is currently shutdown (this one's hosted at home - upgraded recently and it seems the new motherboard is not so stable)
